Words on Bathroom Walls

Perhaps the book managed to flesh out a relationship, but thankfully the rest of the story and acting in the movie was so well done it was easy to forgive an underdeveloped love interest.

Charlie Plummer and Taylor Russell play off each other exceedingly well; sometimes that's all it takes to propel a flick to being enjoyable. With an interesting, honest hook, fun side characters, and an entertaining Andy Garcia, there's plenty here to sink your teeth into, however I was not ready for the emotional nuclear bomb that the final fifteen minutes of this movie would be. This easily goes down as my surprise of the year, despite a Romeo & Juliet (fourteen lines, two kisses) romance.

This movie tries to present the inner mind of a schizophrenic. What it's like to hear voices and the physical hell caused by the side effects of medication. It takes a comprehensive look at a heartbreaking disease that rarely has any sort of happy ending. The beautiful actors gave good performances. It does a better than usual job of characterizing the disease. I liked this movie except for the sugar-coated and unlikely happy ending. Entertaining and worthwhile.

I was looking forward to this one, both for personal reasons and because of Charlie Plummer's absurdly good acting skills. For the latter reason, the film doesn't disappoint. While it does an incredible job of depicting schizophrenia from the first person, the story itself is severely lacking and incomplete. The love story between Plummer and Russell is poorly developed and rushed. It's too bad such little attention was given to the story itself because everything else is nearly perfect.

Good chemistry between the leads. More of a fun movie than it should be?
