Charlie and his boss have difficulties just getting to the house they are going to wallpaper. The householder is angry because he can't get breakfast and his wife is screaming at the maid as they arrive. The kitchen gas stove explodes, and Charlie offers to fix it. The wife's secret lover arrives and is passed off as the workers' supervisor, but the husband doesn't buy this and fires shots. The stove explodes violently, destroying the house. (imdb)

Fun slapstick with a pushcart, paint, and an exploding oven. The film builds nicely with two separate narratives that eventually join together, leaving Charlie's tramp as the most sympathetic character. All of this sets up the "work" inside the house, as Charlie gets the best of everyone. The humor is well-paced, rising to a crescendo with paint flying and oven's exploding. However, the film tags on an extra 5-8 minutes, adding in a brand new character, and losing its momentum by the end.

A bit too reliant on clumsiness for the gags, it gets old over 30 minutes, but still funny at times.

A solid comedy with some great moments. The opening with Charlie pulling that absurd cart is a great set piece, and it comes out perfectly. On the subtler end of things, the scene towards the end with Edna is very nice, and manages to be charming and goofy at the same time.

That Charlie is so messy.
