Alec Baldwin before he absorbed another Baldwin. The Working Girl theme sounds like a Crocodile Dundee gospel

As light fare with a little bite it's pretty enjoyable and Griffith is very easy to root for. It gets a little too hokey when it takes itself seriously though.

Great underdog film thanks to a heroine who is intelligent, resourceful, a mess, and crucially, winging it. The story is a flight of fancy for anyone who thinks they could do a better job than their boss - which must apply to everyone at some point. Harrison Ford and Sigourney Weaver both put in good performances cast slightly against type, while Joan Cusack is (well, looks) hilarious as an 80s fashion disaster. Not a risk-taking film, but above all, a great entertaining yarn.

Unrealistic and clichéd (secretary has great idea, boss steals idea, secretary poses as executive, and by the end wrongs are righted and boss gets her comeuppance), but still a charming film. Harrison Ford's demeanor helps keep this movie from overindulging on itself. Great chemistry between Ford and Griffith.

Nice story and good acting. Not exceptional, but still worth watching.

Not one of Nichols' best, clearly, but still a charming and entertaining enough film with a good cast. Also, while (this will sound shallow) Griffith is a bit too plump in this for my tastes, her voice is still sexy as hell. And oh, wowza ridiculous hairdos.

A flat-out uninteresting film, though meanders along with its very general drama-with-hint-of-comedy tone (that unfortunately now permeates modern comedies). The relationship that develops throughout at least has some meat to it, though in the end, the film just rounds itself off way, way too cleanly and without a single trace of cynicism that wouldn't have gone unwelcomed.

This is a dated film. Its categorised as a comedy, but I didn't find it funny. Watching pervy men flirt with an 'ambitious secretary', Not my thing. Sigourney Weavers character, Katharine Parker, was probably the most stand out. I don't think Tess was a character I found easy to feel too sorry for, even though its clear she's subject to an amount of misogny. The female stereotypes are too cheesy and annoying and the chemistry with certain cast members didn't feel or seem especially genuine

This movie is regressive because she wants to have equal opportunity to be productive rather than to dye her hair blue and destroy society.

Working Girl is a simple and predictable, yet charming 80's comedy drama. It's refreshing to see the likes of Harrison Ford & Sigourney Weaver in less conventional roles. And whereas they could of given half hearted performances, they're both on form and seem to enjoy themselves. But surprisingly Melanie Griffiths holds her own alongside the two bigger stars. She can be undeniably whiny at times, but she gives a delightful performance and there's something understatedly attractive about her too.

Gentle film with a competative edge running through it. Predictable in parts but with some unexpected twists and turns along the way as well. Good story and reasonably paced. Engaging film.

If you're a fan of Harrison Ford, watch this for him. As an actor who half the time picks a dud he doesn't need to do much in, it's really refreshing to dig into his earlier work (I touched on this briefly in my Ender's Game review). From his first scene, Ford is instantly firing on all cylinders. He's totally game for this story and his character, and it's a delight. Those only familiar with the grumbling, gruff old man or sarcastic action star should check out his less conventional roles.

The sexual politics of WORKING GIRL have aged poorly, but it deserves credit for addressing issues of class--something that's long been out of style in Hollywood cinema, let alone romantic comedies. The cast is truly a delight as well, with Melanie Griffith and Harrison Ford immediately capturing our interest and affection, and Sigourney Weaver stealing the show as the one of the most irritating, condescending yuppies the '80s had to offer.

I'm trying to decide if this film was an intentional time capsule, cause WOW the late 80s had some terrible fashions. Did Sigourney Weaver have it listed in the contract that she would be the only one who would look good in this movie? For the most part this was entertaining, but I often find movie plots where it's just one lie piled up on top of another to be very frustrating.

I have never seen a movie so comfortable in Reagen's America. Sigourney gets punished for, well, breaking her leg. And Melanie Griffith literally gets roofied, Harrison Ford takes her home but doesn't rape her (just takes her close off) - and she thanks him! One more time: She falls in love with the guy because he didn't rape her while she was unconscious. So to speak with Hannah Gadsby: What a guy! And in the end, Griffith gets an office, because she plays like the men, tie included.

An unintentionally ironic look at liberation from class and, more centrally, gender barriers that falls into the typically-80s approach of mixing romance, gratuitous nudity, and barely believable narrative moves. While I'd like to laud this for its obviously stated appreciation of liberty for people of all kinds, it's just hard to take seriously, even as a comedy.

Things happened for the plot to keep moving forward without having much of an emotional impact, given the script wasn't very good. I enjoyed the performances and Harrison Ford was particularly nice to look at. Did we need the "woman vs woman" narrative in a movie that specifically focuses on the struggles that women face in the workplace?
