Believe it or not, this is not smut or exploitation. It's a pretty darn interesting human drama about sex workers. Yes, there is copious nudity, but these courtesans, their madam, and their clients are all believable human beings, and there's a lot of humor and human interest. If John Sayles did a movie about filles de joie it'd be a lot like this one

Viewed February 8, 2022. Lizzie Borden's sympathetic and often outright hilarious portrait of the employees that work at a Manhattan brothel. This is such a fascinating, intelligently constructed film - rarely leaving the confines of the brothel (a tacky, windowless apartment made up to seem upscale), Borden alternates between free-flowing scenes of the girls hanging out just like the coworkers at any other unfulfilling jobs, and much more rigid sequences of them with their clients.
