What's so terrible about this film is the sheer frustration factor. I would have loved to see more and have the movie cleaned up and have an actual payoff. I love the concept of basing a film around occult Gnosticism. However, it's set in such a poor movie that by the end, I found myself wringing my hands more out of frustration for failure to realize its potential and easily seeing how it could have been saved. When you're doing the filmmakers work for them, they've got a problem.

Not a bad movie. I like open-ended, but in this case it was weird. It is more psychological and that, most of the times, equals "slow". I think it is the reason behind so bad ratings.

Favourite part: Not being able to read the text messages that played quite an important part in understanding the storyline.

I guess I don't totally get all the hate. Does Wounds make total sense? Absolutely not. The sense of dread and unease that is created is commendable, however, and there are a few fairly shocking visuals. I found fault in being able to find a like able character and maybe some of the performances are a bit big.

Not understanding all the hate. This was great. Titillating and disturbing.

There's the hint of a good idea in there, showing through in some details (the creepy casualness of Carrie's disgust for the flesh, the tunnel imagery); the execution is spectacularly poor, with an incoherent plot leading to an ending so abrupt and anticlimactic I half-believed it was a fake-out. I'm not too bothered about so-called plot holes in horror films, but I generally don't expect a story not to resolve any of the logical, thematic or emotional stakes it has spent an hour setting up.

Armie Hammer is going up for the razzie this year for this one. The man is probably too good looking to look scared. Horrific acting - recommended.

If it wasn't for the cast, I would have went to the top of the bell tower and yelled out .. "DON'T WATCH THIS MOVIE!" .. The cast, the visuals and the 90 min runtime kept me engaged .. .. that doesn't mean i was left satisfied. imo, this is the perfect horrible movie, for a group movie night.

It is like a b-movie. Total disappointment after Under the Shadow (2016)

With an ideal location in New Orleans, a talented director such as Anvari should really be squeezing out more molecules of terror than he's managed to in this middle of the road body horror.

A really dumb movie that fails to sell (hell, it doesn't even try to sell) the mythology it (barely) created. Not a single redeeming quality.

It's creepy, unnerving, well acted, and original. The low rating is 100% undeserved and comes from: 1) Armie Hammer fans who apparently expected something else, and 2) people who expect every movie to end wrapping everything neatly into a nice little package. If you like horror, if you like *original* horror, don't trust the bad reviews and go watch it now.

Booze, insects and glitches. So, the idea seems pretty promising and the film actually works for 30 minutes or so -- a drunk bartender picks up a phone left by a group of millennials only to unleash a supernatural force that was discovered by them in an online forum, a tunnel or some shit that uses wounds to connect with the BEYOND. The finale must be the most generic shit I've seen in some years in American horror. Such a good cast wasted here, jeez.

It's almost like a 1:1 faithful adaptation of Nathan Balingrud's (great) short story "Visible Filth" (Wounds is the name of his amazing horror story collection), but while that story was dripping with atmosphere in the writing, the film does nothing to envelop you in that New Orleans mystical bayou vibe. Nothing is bad, per se, it just feels like the movie is bland and there are a lot of threads not explored, visually or textually. But I did not hate it.

This is trash horror done really well. If you're looking for something meaningful, you're looking in the wrong place, but it's got some laudable craft behind it, and gnosticism is fairly novel terrain for a horror movie to tread.
