A weird amalgamation of Alien, The Fly, The Shining, Close Encounters, and (of all things) Pod People, without being as good as any of them. (Well, maybe Pod People.) I won't lie, some of the body horror stuff is pretty effective, as is the general sense of unease, but the writing sells a lot of the potentially interesting ideas short. A remake by someone like Cronenberg could be great.

Unexpectedly interesting and at times great despite its many obvious faults. Pretty disgusting as well, which added to the experience. Will make you feel uncomfortable about most or all of the following: roadsides at night, snakes, salads, toys, pregnancies, clowns, Great Britain, eggs and guys that kinda look like Adrien Brody.

Oh Xtro, Xtro, Xtro you filth flarn filth. Xtro is the result of someone having a bunch of gross nonsense in their stupid British head and needing an outlet to unleash Xtro. "Okay so blimey we got a Xtro clown right and then there's a bleedin' Xtro alien thing crawlin like a Xtro crab and then a Xtro dick faucet comes out o' the loo' and a plastic Xtro toy soldier man stabs this old bird right in the knickers." Muddled, boring and laden with cheap, oozy effects this lame sci-fi/gore effort limps all over the place, offering weirdness and jump scares, but no explanations. There are 3 scenes worth seeing: Maryam d'Abo topless (*schwing*), an old lady being stalked and terrorized by a life sized GI Joe doll, and a woman giving birth to a full grown man. These moments alone can't quite redeem the film, though

This is some certified crazy stuff right here. It's like Spielbergian family issues channeled through a hopelessly shit-faced Cronenberg. Some genuinely messed up scenes mixed with half baked ideas and decent special effects. No real coherence to any of it but it does hold some interest due to its striking oddity. If you're looking for some delirious "what the hell?" experiences with a high gross out factor it's pretty good going.

Xtro is an uncomfortable mess of a movie, with one half of the runtime being a fairly normal low-budget horror and the other half being a deliriant overdose. Notable for having the highest percentage of "Jesus, I'm trying to eat here" I've experienced in a while.

It's got some really memorable (aka. gross) scenes that I doubt one will ever forget. However, on a whole, it feels like a terrible mash-up between Alien and It (admittedly this is a retrospective analysis considering It came out 3 years after this). The worst offender in the film has to be the soundtrack, it is absolutely horrendous, even by 80's standards.

A bit of an oddity. I'm not sure what I expected, but it wasn't this. It features some ultra-cheap but curiously effective gory scenes, some real weirdness, a plot that offers little explanation to anything, and soap opera level acting; Lou Beale from EastEnders makes an appearance. The score was naff. It's worth a look for fans of early 80s British schlock, but it sadly doesn't live up to the promise of the VHS box cover I remember from back in the day.

Totally crazy Brit movie, considered by many to be one of Video Nasties. Special effects, especially space monster dad were great! Plot is very loose, and it feels like it was made on the go (director's interview confirms this). But the again, I bet it would loose some of its charm if weird stuff happening had logic in it.

You ever see a horror movie as a kid & it's really disturbing & surreal & sticks with you for years until you finally see it as a jaded adult & now it's just cheesy & bad? Yeah, not Xtro. This shit is as freaky now as it was when I was ten.

Doused in 80's synth and other compositions. Decent conflict at points with madness filling some of the running time and some drabness filling the rest. Overall, has a musty feel to it. Still I'm a sucker for 80's SFX, they're always literally glistening with hope of being believable.

It has so much potential of actually being spooky, but unfortunately it's too weird, slow, boring and badly written to actually reach that creep level. That clown though.

The effects are good. And there are a legitimate handful of memorable scenes making use of them. But in the end it's simply boring and unengaging.

Xtro feels like it barely exists due to its lore and infamy. Watching the film, these feels don't really subside due to its dream-like atmosphere and its I-have-no-idea-what-will-happen-next mentality. It is great in spite of people saying it isn't for decades.

Off-kilter like Manos. A bizarre and occasionally really disturbing experience, but awkwardly paced.

Ah, so that's where that roadside alien clip comes from. Worth watching for the morbidly curious, there are several scenes that are unforgettably bizarre and/or Fulci-level gory. It's also one of the most tonally off-kilter films I've seen, veering between a man getting shot at by a toy tank to a woman being cocooned alive to produce alien eggs like a victim of a parasitic wasp. However taken as a whole it's not something I would consider rewatching ever again.

This is a low budget horror flick from the early 80s. It sounds like a bad movie to mock for fun, but it's not: It is a genuinely good movie which deserves to be taken seriously.

The plot is a cluttered & nonsensical mess that doesn't explain way too many things, & that definitely knocks it down a peg. It's lazily written, clumsily paced, & the ending is pretty sudden & underwhelming. Still, the effects look pretty damn good, the acting isn't horrid, & the relationship between the four main characters is interesting for what it is. It's worth watching for the things it does well, but is also really annoying for the things it does badly. Middle of the road stuff.
