Writer-director Karen Maine so gets the early aughts era of people questioning their faith in institutions that this could be an indie teen dramedy from the time. Dyer's hero character wonderfully sees through the bullshit of the adult world (a religion with few answers, toxic masculinity, etc.) and uses that heartbreak to make her heart bigger. It's a short film with no subplot, but that's okay. I'd love a cinematic universe with this kid & Lady Bird. Highly recommended and vastly overlooked.

Dyer delivers a good performance, but Yes, God, Yes is a superficial film on a deeper topic. American Catholicism is portrayed akin to Evangelicalism (which rings true), focusing on the misinformation, hypocrisy & gaslighting required to breed zealotry as it preys on the young, needy & gullible. Some standard high-school drama & a wise lesbian advising Dyer to move to the coast and that's the film. Boe reprises her role as a girl with an emotional void. Decent but the film looks & feels pallid.

Never boring, occasionally funny, a little heartfelt. Dyer only had to be one-note for most of it; to her credit she did it well, and she was always good to watch but I wouldn't exactly give her awards for this. The rest Yes, God, Yes was insubstantial. I agree with amazedemon: this could have went deeper then it did and I think it would have been stronger for it. This makes Maine's film a good coming of age tale but nothing more. That's okay, but it's a film that feels like it deserves more.

The name can mean two things! This is a nice, quiet comedy that decides at the end to introduce a magical lesbian and has the main character giving a monologue about the hypocrisy of the people around her (just in case you weren't aware where the film stands).

I tend to personally love "sexual awakening" movies since mine played such an intense role in my growing up. I expected Alice to do some feel-good fess-up at the end, but she didn't. Love that for her. All of the characters look and act like people you definitely knew in high school. Dyer's performance was also enjoyable

Pretty tame, but very relatable and non patronizing. It's wholesome without being saccharine and manages to steer clear of the painful cliches.

I was really hoping for something a little more faith based that looked into the life of a Christian struggling with lust, being a man of God myself, but the movie still manages to accomplish what it set out to really well. It's not perfect and it probably isn't one of my favorite coming of age movies, but the acting is pretty solid (especially the lead) and Maine's directing and writing are both thoughtful and gentle without crossing any lines. Funny, short, and insightful.

A very well casted movie. We are getting away from type of movie being really all that relatable anymore. But growing up essentially in this era in a pretty religious town I knew all these types of weirdos

I watched this mostly because the original short film was good. And well, I suppose it probably should have stayed as a short film. The longer format didn't really add much to the story. Natalia Dyer was good though.

Alice was portrayed brilliantly but her interactions with the other Catholic believers is left to be desired. Alice is interested in sex and her community shuns the topic. She learns that everyone is having sex despite their public devotions and homilies. We have a good grasp on Alice as a character but no so much on the supporting cast which makes the viewing experience somewhat flat.
