If anything, this should demonstrate the importance of good writing. Fresh from success of "The Lady Eve" (REALLY fresh), the studio rushed this into production 3 months after "The Lady Eve" opened, trying to cash in on the buzz. Just one problem: the screenplay is a dud. Not even Dalton Trumbo's talent could give this any life--nay, interest. I blame Claude Binyon, who wrote the limp dialogue. Stanwyck and Fonda gave it their best, pros that they were, but there's not much reason to see this.
