You Got Served

Twenty years after 1984, the year of the breakdancing movie, which saw such classics as; "Breakin'","Beat Street", "Body Rock", and "Breakin' 2: Electric Boogaloo", Chris Stokes and the boys of B2K updated the dance battle movie for the new millennium with their own so-bad-it's-good, ridiculously cliche, made-for-BET movie, stretched to feature length with music video-esque dance battle scenes and Steve Harvey-isms. While certainly a terrible movie, it has a watchable, dated, trashiness to it.

Yes I did. By watching this movie, director Chris Stokes effectively served me. That said, when I put the You Got Served DVD in, what exactly did I expect?

This was the feature at our "Terrible Movie Night". we were not prepared.

As a movie its sucks.. But this movie actually quite a source of inspiration for young generations of dancers all over the world and contain many famous actual dancers. So ıf you look of the perspective of street/hip-hop dance.. This movie is kinda cool.. But as a movie its sucks.

Stokes--with music-video directing credits--puts all the dancers' energy and talent out there but chops up the segments, thus diminishing the overall effect. Oh and, just to be clear, "you got served" means "I beat you...and BAD." So there.

The only one who got served was me. For watching this. Fuck you movie!

The awful and awesome in almost complete equilibrium. Show stopping dance skills mixed with dismal melodrama. Love how the family with money trouble live in a lovely suburban house and have grandparents that can spot them $1500 at the drop of a hat. Also, where are the guns? I contemplated giving this a couple of points because it resulted in a great episode of South Park... but then I realized that insightful spoof just furthered my opinion of how shitty this movie is. Leave the street dancing for the 3 minute music videos unless you can SOMEHOW come up with a decent plot with a little bit of realism to make us care about the characters and their backgrounds.

This might be the most aptly-named movie ever, because as Ytadel points out, the only people getting served are the people watching. WE got served, and we all paid for it. Well, except me, somebody else paid for the rental. So they got served more than I did. But we all got served in our own way. My PSI said I would be expected to give this film a 4. TOO BAD.

It derves at least a couple points for introducing it's title into mainstream pop culture ; )

The dance sequences are good! Unfortunately the rest of the movie happens between those dance sequences, and makes up the majority of the running time.

Extract all story and dialogue; leave the dance moves; you might have a mediocre YouTube hit.

Extremely realistic. Gotta love the names too: Rico (if you're making a dancemovie, it will be nothing without a Rico), Lil Saint, Beautifull, Mr. Rad, Wade, Marty etc etc. So original. The dialogues are just so so beautiful, overusing the words dawg, bro and yo. Simply amazing. But shiit, David Elsewhere is in this movie?! Why did he do that! He probably got payed a lotttt

The fact that they even have the audacity to charge people to buy the DVD boggles my mind. It should be free and shown to aspiring film makers with the warning: "If you make something like this, you will be forced to fight hungry lions like the Roman Colosseum days."

Everything I hated about high school.

Some of the girls are really sexy. The dancing is pretty fun. The acting and everything else is atrociously naive, apart from plain atrocious.

Great dancing, so why did you have to ruin the moves by adding in a bad movie?

Like 'Bring It On' ghetto stylee. Amazing. And I managed to spot K-Fed as one of the backing dancers. Wonderful.
