I tend to hate any thing that came out of the 70s (my ex-boyfriend, included) but this movie is seemingly decent.

There's a legitimacy to the chills that feels earned, which is rarer than I would like in this genre. Both Patty Duke and Rosemary Murphy are shockingly sympathetic: the mother-in-law's evil is that passive, resigned kind (which is terrifying); and Duke matches her beat-for-beat with righteous indignation. Trying to run from a psycho while holding a newborn is as fraught as it should be.

While I wouldn't call this a small gem, it was still a nice surprise. A solid thriller which takes place in snowy Minnesota in a beautiful old estate. The cast is very small, but especially the 3 main women do a fine job. It has an eerie atmosphere which owes a lot to the location. There are some unnecessary voice overs and the whole idea of hiding a newborn in an attic is quite ridiculous, but all-in-all this was a nice way to spend 90 mins.
