Young Ones

I was left pretty disappointed. I think the film has a decent story, and it could have made for a good film. But, frankly, the direction isn't any good. It feels amateurish and contrived. It's matched by the editing, which is awkward and, again, amateurish. The performances are fine, with Nicholas Hoult continuing to prove himself to be a real movie star. It's a shame that it couldn't all come together, and ends up being a bit forgettable.

Poor storytelling lets this grim tale fall just short of serviceable. It's too slow in parts and wooden in others. Raised up only by a talented cast and interesting (albeit not entirely original) overall concept.

Unfortunately, this movie is unrelated to the TV series. Instead it is a weird sci-fi film with a threadbare story. It starts out as Mad Max, with people killing each other over water and washing dishes with sand. But then there's airplanes and cars and cities... what? The story is stretched thin over 100 minutes, you keep waiting for something to happen but it doesn't. Such a waste of three talented young actors - Smit-McPhee especially stands out.

A rather insipid movie. Fell asleep while watching, I don't know how it ended but couldn't care less.

The quality is largely dependent upon which story is currently being told in this sci-fi western vignette film.

GIANT...but on Tatooine.

Decent sci/fi western mashup. The acting is pretty strong overall and Nicholas Hoult is proving that not all child actors need to be dismissed once they hit puberty. This whole film could have easily been a mission in the "Fallout: New Vegas" video game world.

Essentially a Western family drama with a sci-fi garnish. A bit slow, and the first half is stronger, but it's lovely to look at with solid turns from the young leads.
