one of my all time favorite movies that almost nobody else has seen. funny in the most dark and savage ways."Common sense dictated everything I did; you would have done the same thing given my position."

It's not a bad movie, I just think its flaws were a little bit more apparent because I didn't exactly relate to the movie in the way I was supposed to. Everything seemed lifeless, static, and flat. Because of this the jokes don't really land and the pacing is slow. Everyone plays their part well and some scenes are almost Solondzian in nature, but unlike a Solondz film, tonally it just didn't work for me.

Top badass moment? Gaining the clarity of vision to realise that when the revolution comes, people like these should be the first against the wall. A movie about a group of superficial, selfish, deluded, high-functioning but dysfunctional individuals, living in a social bubble with people equally as self-centred, who all pretend to be friends. You’ll find more emotional intelligence in a smart lightbulb. A human train wreck you can enjoy without guilt. No cats, chainsaws or decapitations.

There is nothing as boring as films about people talking about sex.

I guess Neil Labute is sort of like Eric Rohmer, if Rohmer cared about being "edgy" and "shocking"...

It's alright. I love this kind of film but this one doesn't do anything particularly exceptional. I do think that Jason Patric's monologue is pretty good. More of that kind of stuff would've been nice, or maybe a more humorous spin on things like Happiness.

Slow-moving and somewhat fascinating look into bleak relationships, but an overly talky movie focusing on only unsympathetic characters isn't one to connect with and really like - especially when some of the dialogue and story seem contrived. *Preview*: #12#, exp-3*, story, reviews, Amy.B!/7, Catherine.K/8, R2.

This a dark film with a really interesting script. The story revolves around several dysfunctional characters. The cast really works well together. The acting is very believable and the characters are original. Definitely check out this great drama.

Searing, brutal study of modern relationships, with a good cast firing on all cylinders (a perhaps surprising stand-out is Patric as a testosterone fuelled super stud, who also gets the lion's share of the venemously cynical dialogue). Because all characters are so (intentionally) dislikable and irritating, it is hard to connect with either them or their circumstances in any meaningful way, but LaBlute as writer and director should be congratulated for bringing their milieu to vivid life.

Jesus, Neil Labute has a low opinion of humanity, or at least of our ability to form relationships. But through all the lies and deceit, some intimate truths emerge. And Jason Patric has created a truly memorable monster.

As with other LaBute films, Your Friends & Neighbors is absurdly cynical and mean-spirited. It's very decent, and features a strong performance by Jason Patric, but it's not quite as good as In the Company of Men, which is similar in tone and features an even stronger performance by Aaron Eckhart. How much enjoyment you derive from this movie will depend on how misanthropic you are. I happen to hate every one of you with a passion. Just kidding, you fucking scumbags.

Very clever, excellent performances, waaaaay too ugly for its own good.

Great acting and misanthropic themes makes for a blackly humourous film with some truly shocking moments.

Standard nastiness from LaBute. It contains some honest insight, but it's far too snide and cynical.

Higher hopes for this plausibly interesting but mean spirited & poorly written picture, which never allows the viewer to suspend disbelief.

A mean little thing from Neil LaBute. Not his best work.

Expands and improves on IN THE COMPANY OF MEN. It's a richer and possibly more disturbing film. But LaBute at this point, still has no fucking interest in making movies and continues to see it as simply making a permanent record of a theater production. I've decided that this isn't inexperience, but moralism.
