From the dizzying artistic heights of "George Washington" to the penis and fart lows of "Your Highness", David Gordon Green has certainly chosen a strange path to go down. There are actually moments of truly inspired comedy hidden within, but they are unfortunately far too often overwhelmed by simplistic Adam Sandler-esque (non)comedy.

Two brothers go on a quest to rescue a bad actress while slinging jokes about ejaculate and penises. Along the way they meet a pedophile muppet that smokes weed and an actress that has used her newly acquired Oscar to catapult her to appearing in horseshit comedies.

The James Franco/Danny McBride bromance style of slacker/stoner comedy really does NOT translate well to a Medieval setting (Cheech and Chong's Corsican Brothers is a much better effort along the same lines). There's a handful of funny bits but an awful lot of awkward, juvenile stupidity that drags on and on. The biggest laughs for me came from looking at the unbelievably bad CGI effects. I have no idea what the fuck Natalie Portman was doing in this.

McBride should be banned from writing and acting altogether. He is the Shyamalan of comedy, and this movie is his Lady in the Water. Let me sum it up with one word, "juvenile".

Two, maybe three good laughs, a whole bunch of boring filler, and a generally stupid plot. I do get the whole point is being idiotic and vulgar, but it's nothing we haven't seen before, except this time it's with swords and armor. Skip this movie unless you have absolutely nothing else to watch.

Imagine Pineapple Express crossed with Monty Python's Holly Grail with the production quality of King Arthur! I laughed so hard I actually had tears in my eyes. If you thought though that this was going to be a serious or believable film: you're an idiot. This is a film with excessive crude humor, gratuitous boobs, and Natalie Portman in a thong!

I suppose there's some humour to be found in throwing crude content and expletives into the typically haughty dialogue and setting of a medieval period piece, but it's done to such a (literally) gross extent here it wears very thin very quickly, and when even the (bland and suspense-less) main plot is misogynist and centered on sex, the whole film just feels like the adventure fan-fiction of a snickering 15-year old who plays Age of Empires and has porn mags stashed under his mattress.

I went in expecting Men in Tights and I got Dragonheart! Played entirely too straight, and while the laughs are strong, it just doesn't have enough of them. There are long stretches of completely straight fantasy movie that just make the movie feel loooong.

Great production values and a decent cast that, unfortunately, has very little material to work with. It's not funny enough to succeed as a comedy, unless you think vulgarity is the height of entertainment and you still need to hit puberty. All in all, another movie that cost a boatload of money and that will be forgotten soon after watching.

It starts with you searching for comedy. The actors are having fun but nothing really gets you laughing. Then you start to realize the detail of the sets, the direction and how classic the cinematography is. When Portman appears you're suddenly hit with decent acting from everyone and by the third act you're amazed at how good this "bad film" has become. Which if you don't get it by now, IS the whole joke. It's funny these actors came together and made a half decent, over the top, silly epic.

I love this movie in theory - I enjoy crude, profane comedy, I enjoy generic high fantasy, I enjoy all the actors - but the comedic execution just isn't quite up to snuff. I remember laughing a few times, but I saw it an hour ago and I can't remember a single specific line of dialogue I laughed at. I am impressed with how all-out they went with the fantasy settings and cinematography though. Maybe they just should have gone straight fantasy?

A lunatic stoner riff on early-80's fantasy. Probably geared more towards people who grew up loving "Clash of the Titans," "Krull," and "The Dark Crystal," and making fun of the "Ator" movies. It also helps if you're in the mood to tolerate the often juvenile, somewhat pandering sense of humor McBride employs here. I loved parts of this. Other parts of it just sat there. Your mileage will undoubtedly vary.

What a complete waste. Some exceptional talent is served up in this stupid cheesy farce with low brow humor that is neither funny nor entertaining. I am appalled at the tremendous waste. Danny McBride is the stupidest actor I have seen in quite a while and as for the script, it seems to have come straight out of a raunchy sex video. Shame on the writers. Shame on the directors. Shame on every single actor who contributed to making this dismal excuse for a comedy. Lame only begins to describe it.

Oddly enough, while I can play a game like Shadows of the Damned, I sometimes have a hard time going through a movie that basically operates on a one-joke premise: sex. Don't get me wrong, there are some really funny jokes in here, and the cast is good. Portman showing up is the best part but I just feel like a bunch of the jokes are flaccid (yeah I can do it too!). Not a bad movie by any means, just not good, and with the cast involved, I expected more.

A mostly pleasant fantasy comedy that works better on paper than in practice. The script has some clever ideas but this feels like a first draft rushed into production -- there just aren't enough jokes to make a more satisfying movie. That doesn't mean this is a dreary and laughless experience, but it's more likely to draw chuckles and smiles than uproarious laughter. It succeeds better as a fantasy film than a comedy -- Portman is particularly good playing her absurd dialogue totally straight.

This movie fails as a comedy and barely scrapes by as a medieval adventure. It had some very comedic people in this most notably Danny McBride and James Franco but I only laughed twice in the whole film and both of those times were at lines said by Justin Theroux who plays the evil wizard. I can't really find too many compliments for this film other than I made it through it without turning it off. This wasn't a painful experience just not a pleasant one which is too bad. I hoped for more.

An insult to everyone involved. These comedies that apply crude, modern-day humor (using that word loosely) to different time periods just don't translate. Could have been a funny short film concept, but as a full-length movie it suffocates under the weight of its own fecal matter. To those that imply that the cinematography and set pieces give this any value as some kind of self-aware comedy; picture a hot girl at a party who can't stop vomitting on herself. Visual flair can't overcome that.

A funny and refreshing take on both fantasy films and comedies in general. It spoofs on all the right things, has some good action scenes, and the chemistry between the actors is fantastic. Yes, most of the humor is sophomoric, but it works.

Predictable, poorly written, and just plain unfunny for the most part. The elements were all there for me to love this movie (David Gordon Green, Franco, Portman, Theroux, fantasy comedy), and it just fell flat on it's face. Theroux and Portman specifically are highlights (with what they had to work with), but I would've rated the movie much lower if the direction wasn't quality on Green's part.

Certainly not the best comedy film of all time, but a rather good attempt. There is no doubt about the chemistry amongst the cast. Franco and McBride had worked together before, and the rest of the cast just fit in well. Perhaps Your Highness could have more jokes throughout, but the humor was rather entertaining. Zooey Deschanel plays the smallest part, but plays a fantastic part.Your Highness is a decent flick, that you will get a few solid hearty laughs out of.

A failure as a film, comedy, and, worst of all, as anything of substance, Your Highness made me dislike Zooey Deschanel in a film, a feat of astronomical proportions. I didn't laugh once because there was not a single moment which even felt comedic and actually found myself becoming irrationally angry as it progressed. With the talent and funding taken into consideration, Your Highness is my least favorite film of all time, and I do not expect anything will take its place soon. Why, Zooey?

I love Danny McBride, DGG, Jody Hill, et al. But this just wasn't very good. Some really great bits, but I went *long* stretches without laughing. I think McBride's just out of his element trying to write a parody in a genre he's not too familiar with. Foot Fist Way, Eastbound and Down, Pineapple Express -- all are phenomenal, better choices than this film.

Good for a few chuckles but an otherwise empty fantasy-spoof. Shrek with more overt dick jokes. The amount of vulgarity just sort of clashes with the fantasy tone and although the cast must have had fun it all seems a big indulgent on behalf of David Gordon Green.

Still a comedy that is woefully underrated. More so than anybody I think Franco bounces of Mcbride the best. Plus Mcbride for all the crit people will lay at him for being one note is a hysterical 9 times outta 10. Another case of a movie getting poor reviews to start out and then the public just latches on to the misinformed hate before going into the cinema.

I remember laughing, for sure. And I remember liking both Franco and Portman (surprise surprise there, right?). I was also pleasantly surprised to see Zooey Deschanel, who I love. But I'm not 100% sure that Danny McBride is suited to writing. Yes, there's Eastbound & Down, but after that, y'know, his writing credentials are fairly uninspiring. Maybe he should stick to TV? Anyways, it's funny in parts and has the basic Fantasy idea right, is well-directed and shot, and, ultimately, passable.

The best thing I can say about Your Highness is that it made me laugh a lot. The worst thing I can say is that a lot of people probably won't enjoy it. But if you enjoy the type of humor that it presents, you'll have a really good time. Most surprising about it was the fact that the action scenes were quite inventive, and it ends up being a fun journey. The story isn't involving, and the characters aren't that interesting, but it made me laugh enough to forget that these things even matter.

Seriously I'd expected more geek/gamer humor along with references to games yet they've served me just dirty talk. If I wanted that, I would called hot line. Chock full of surprisingly fun knock-about action and some good laughs. Portman and Franco have fun goofing around in a comedy - but really their main contribution is their star-power: boosting the budget and making sure it gets shown near you. Stick-thin Portman is beautiful, but brings nothing else, and edges out Deschanel who works her usual goofy schtick well despite not really getting a proper story of her own. Not really a true comedy - more a silly action fantasy with some bawdy laughs.
