A mediocre movie. Cera is just as irritatingly pretentious in the role of rebellious brat and as he is in the role of whining introvert.

This film does largely fall into the category of having the best bits shown in the trailer. Though shown to be a standard comedy, it did enter the realm of "WTF" comedy from time to time. I admit I did laugh at trying to understand why everyone was stoned in a house with the neighbour shirtless sniffing the carpet. The animated sequences don't entirely fit in either. Though not what I expected, still quite a good comedy.

Funny, unassuming, creative and honest. Enjoyed it.

This was nothing like the trailer, it was quite quirky and not American Pie or Superbad style film.

Raunchy, but low key in tone, with some black humor top it off. Leaned more Zwigoff than Apatow to me, which is why I loved it.

Decent comedy. A couple very funny parts and a couple boring parts. The worst thing about it is probably the fact that Michael Cera's character seems fairly intelligent but then he does a handful of things that are completely retarded. That and the way that everything magically worked out in the end was really stupid. But other than that it was fun and entertaining. Also, Justin Long was hilarious. He didn't have a lot of screen time but he was the funniest character.

A very formulaic comedy in many respects: quirky, immature and frivolous teenagers seeking sex from another. The film, however, succeeds at juxtaposing the wild/impulsive nature of the secular world to that of the authoritarian and absolutism of fanatical religious parents. Nonetheless, the sporadic in and out of characters from the narrative deadens its overall pace; but Michael Cera's deadpan humor rescues the failures thereof. All in all, the film underscores that teens will always be teens.

Michael Cera is growing on me like a fungus, I don't want to like him but somehow I just can't help myself.

Romantic comedy about an intelligent and awkward 16 year-old boy who meets his romantic match while on a family vacation and invents an alter ego in order to win her affection and, later, to reunite with her. A uniquely comic and compassionate perspective on adolescence that shines through the brightly imaginative, very funny film version of 'Youth in Revolt'.... this is the rare movie one doesn't want to end.

These days unique films are rare. It seems few filmmakers even try to do anything outside the norm. This movie is outside the norm, and for that reason alone I may have rated it higher than I should have - but damn if I didn't enjoy it.

It may not entirely do its source material justice, but Miguel Arteta's Youth in Revolt is a fun, funny comic romp that lets Michael Cera stretch a little and introduces filmgoers to a major find in Portia Doubleday.
