A poetic and atmospheric picture of Lodz from Kieslowski, with thematic editing, portraits of everyday life in the city, and beautiful black and white photography. The contrast in sounds from one sequence to the next, as Kieslowski intersperses machine noises and music makes for productive juxtapositions, while the scenes of women surrounded by machines in the factory nicely highlights their humanity.
