Another fine installment. The photography, acting and action are all still great and provide a satisfying experience. But it's increasingly familiar and you can can check the boxes just as well as in a James Bond movie. I'm certainly enjoying these movies a great deal, but any form of surprise in the remaining parts would be very welcome.

After a somewhat silly opening segment where Zatoichi turns to the sumo ring to supplement his masseuse earnings, this one is step up from the last installment, with a better story & supporting characters, and better swordplay to boot.

This 4th film moves the series more into "action movie" mode, featuring better and more frequent swordplay than the previous entries. Zatoichi has a price put on his head by a yakuza boss, and the main samurai trying to collect turns out to be married to Tane, Ichi's love interest from the first film. The ending of this flick is just incredible as Ichi flies into a rage and viciously cuts down around fifty men, and the final duel is the finest of the series so far.
