I tried very hard to like it, but it was still boring most of the time

Seems to be both ambitious and ambiguous, but first time around the convoluted storyline comes off as partly cheesy irritating and partly classy intriguing - and I wouldn't be too eager for the rewatch-experience of this if not for the amazing acting-/face-ace Gong Li. *Preview*: #14#, story, Gong Li!/10B4

The film is very poetic both in dialogue and direction but the characters aren't developed enough. Tony Leung was solid but not given much to do. Gong Li is a force of nature and is always captivating to watch.
