It's 1944, somewhere in Europe. Sarge, Mittens, Joey and Dolan are the only remaining survivors of a German ambush. Bizarre radio signals and a loud bang announces the crash landing of an alien spacecraft. Hitler's forces are rapidly approaching and all hope seems lost, until the Americans discover the wreckage of an alien spacecraft with one if its crew still surviving.

It was entertaining for a bit but either should have had more action (besides Germans showing up in waves) or more humor considering the silly alien designs. Parts of it, like the imagination generator, felt like a classic Star Trek episode. Fav scene: exploring the spaceship.

(Viewed in 2015): Zone Troopers is a typical Empire picture: it promises much but delivers little. The concept of making a rollicking Dirty Dozen style war film crossed with a b grade sci fi played to the tune of big band music seemed like a recipe for retro schlock heaven, but Bilson isn't up to the task. His script, co-written by De Meo, is surprisingly low on humour, especially given Thomerson's involvement, and while the action isn't bad, the pace is flat and kills any sense of momentum.

Genuinely funny and quite a bit better than I had expected.

Has all the elements for a good film, but fails by playing it at a humorless level. It's more like a pulp scifi short story from the 30s. If they'd thrown in some comedy elements this could have been a fun movie.

All the pieces were there: WW2, space rockets, aliens, Nazi SS, big band music, Tim Thomerson, but for some reason it just didn't all fit together.
