New Hollywood

"A broad term used to define a time in American Cinema starting in the late 1960's and early 1980's, New Hollywood, also called American New Wave is when Hollywood studios started to take in ideas and people outside the Hollywood normal conventions when approaching film making. Not only can a movie make it big in Hollywood, but it can also be a statement and work of art from the director and all involved. The films "Bonnie and Clyde" and "Easy Rider" are known for the beginning of American New Wave movement that lasted until the 1980's, many calling "Raging Bull" its last true masterpiece. Then unknown directors like Martin Scorsese, Robert Altman, and Francis Ford Coppola are now considered amongst the greatest American film makers of all-time. Actors such as Dustin Hoffman and Robert DeNiro became household names for their roles in these films as well."
