Re: How granular are your ratings ?

I vote on a 5-star system with no half stars. "20" if I hate a film, or got nothing out of a film. I ask myself "But I liked the part when...", and if I can't think of anything, then it goes here. "40" if I didn't like it, or thought it was okay but wouldn't recommend it. "60" if I enjoyed it and wo...

No Criticker Personal Update E-mails in June? I got 3 in May...

I enjoy looking forward to these e-mails (did I get any stars on my reviews!), but find it strange that they seem to have ceased?

Anyone else get or not get Personal Updates last month?

Re: anime movies for people who hate anime

I've dipped my toe into anime and haven't enjoyed mostly any of what I have seen so far. There was a Studio Ghibli festival in theatres a couple of years ago, I ended up seeing, I don't know, maybe 7 or 8 of them, and of all these stone-cold bedrock anime classics, I only really enjoyed "Nausicaa of...

Re: To the people who actually rate out of 100

I rate on a 5-star scale with no half-stars (be decisive damn it!). So on Criticker I use 20, 40, 60, 80, 100. It's better than, for example saying "63", because in a month those people won't have a chance in hell of remembering their scores. But it's pretty easy to remember out of 5 possi...

Re: The Top 20 Films of 2017 (#1-10)

You should use a Bayesian average to get a more accurate view of the Criticker users' favourites. It doesn't make sense to compare just the raw score of a film with 20 ratings against one with thousands. The more ratings a film has, the more it will regress towards the mean (i.e. for a good movie, t...

Strangest Trailer You've Ever Seen

I think I just saw mine tonight. "The Shape of Water", new film out in December by Guillermo del Toro.

Mute janitor falls in love with fish man.

Like, Creature from the Black Lagoon type of thing.

I think that takes the cake for me. What's your weirdest trailer experience?

Re: TCIs regenerated

I am also having this problem. Noticed it last night, posted about it in another thread. Just checked again today and it's the same. Seems that it's a 3 film in common minimum.

My TCI Top Users Top 10 list this week is all new?

All of my regular Top Ten TCI users are gone, replaced by a completely new list of other users with as little as 3 movies in common with mine (even though it's currently set to a minimum 37). In short, there's a problem (at least for me), that at the moment doesn't require my TCI users to have at le...

Re: IMDb to shut down message boards...

I'll miss all the reviews by white supremacists on any movie or TV show with a black person in it. Or any progressive or civil rights movie. Check out the Holocaust denial on the "Denial" boards. They weren't movie message boards as much as hate speech boards. Instead of scrapping it, they...
