Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

i think the site would have to be a mind-reader to map such things automatically, there's no way of knowing simply by looking at an individual's ratings alone. my suggestion would simply be that every user has the opportunity to manually determine their own 50th percentile should they so wish, this...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

i feel like this is getting needlessly complex so let me try to give a clear example: let's say user A is someone who exclusively watches films with a high psi and user B is a film critic who has to watch every godawful new movie that hits theaters. this means user A enjoys 80% of the films he watc...

Re: Quips under Percentile System

I'm not sure if there is a bug in the custom quip system, but that image you linked looks correct to me. The reason it looks empty is because it's waiting for you to fill it out. It's kind of a confusing screen to understand, so maybe at some point in the future they should make a youtube video expl...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

I think it actually does handle skewed distributions fundamentally different than the old system. I could be wrong, but I explained how so above. The problem of skewed distribution was that the old system would merge (into the same tier) movies that were very differently rated in order to squeeze th...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

Ok, but that is not what the above discussion was about. What was discussed was most users watch only films they like and thus only rate films they like, often leading to rating scales ranging e.g. between 50-100 with no ratings below 50. I'm curious, do you know of any users who have no ratings be...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

I understand how it was a problem under the old 10 tier system, but I'm not sure I understand how it's a problem under the percentile system. Can someone ELI5 for me? I'll try (can't do completely without maths though): Let's assume a user ranks 10 films with the following scores: 91, 92, 93, 94, 9...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

Same here. I think the takeaway of the thread: What happens to tiers if a user only rates movies he likes? and the thread: Disagree with the Ranking Scale is that we have to rate bad movies . I am also wondering, whether there is another (better) way. But I admit, that I haven't yet found a solutio...

Re: Where is everyone ?

Active forums are great in principle, but discussions are often dominated by one or two loud individuals that drown out the other participants and drive people away who can't be bothered with arguing about something that's really not that important in the grand scheme of things. The other thing is ...

Re: Have a forum on each movie page, and delete the general "movie-specific" forum

I agree this could bring people in. I also agree that no other movie forum has yet to rise up to replace the IMDB specific-movie forums on their movie pages, and that some site will eventually rise up to fill that void. Criticker could try to get in there while the getting's good.
