Babylon (2022)

This past fall, Don't Worry Darling was the most talked about movie to be released. And almost none of it was due to on-the-screen content. Olivia Wilde got served custody papers at a promotional talk at CinemaCon. Shia LaBeouf was fired or quit, depending on who you ask, amid some conflicting repor...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

PSIs are definitely being incorrectly calculated at the moment, because there is a mix of old TCIs (with lower numbers) and new TCIs (which are all higher numbers). So, when I look at the PSI for Tarkovsky's Mirror , for example, all ten numbers used to generate the PSI are from those old TCIs. It ...

Re: How Movie Pass Works

So I've used it three times now, and I love it -- ESPECIALLY at my home theater that uses E-ticketing instead of buying at the box office. Friends of mine that use it where I go to school (no e-ticketing there) will go to the theater earlier in the day to buy their tickets for a later showing, which...

Re: How Movie Pass Works

I have my card but haven't actually used it yet...but I did try once. I overestimated how many people would be seeing Thor: Ragnarok on its opening Saturday. Where I live (central Illinois), it's worth it if I can see just two or three movies a month, so when I'm on my semester break I'm going to te...

13 Reasons Why - Season 1 (2017)

(I need to open this review with something a little different than usual: a disclaimer. Typically, the reviews and the ratings I give should be some kind of indication as to whether or not you should watch or listen to something. This time, that is not the case. 13 Reasons Why depicts sexual assault...

Re: What ranking scale are you guys using/recommending?

This question is something I've struggled with a lot recently, but seeing this discussion has actually made me more sure of my own system and how well it works for me. I use a 1-100 scale that I also convert to a 1-10 scale for use on other sites like RT or IMDB. It breaks down like this: 100-91 = 1...

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

I hold film critics in quite high regard. Quite often, that Tomatometer score is my deciding factor as to whether or not I want to see a movie. It might be a bad idea to put so much weight on other people's opinions, but it typically works quite well for me, so I haven't changed the way I choose wha...

Re: Are some award categories redundant, and elitist?

2. Show more clips from the nominated movies and performances, and ply everyone with lots of booze to loosen them all up , then see what they say when they win. Let them talk for a bit if they want. If you've ever seen Guillermo from Jimmy Kimmel Live on the red carpet, you'd know that he does that...

Re: Star Wars: Episode 7 - The Force Awakens

Same. I've seen it twice already, loved it both times. There's a lot of stuff that I missed on my first viewing, which makes me want to keep going back and watching it. Daisy Ridley was fantastic. Abrams's direction was gorgeous. There's a lot more that I could go into, but I'll just link to my revi...

The Gift (2015)

I'm not just open to original films: I crave them. An original film makes my viewing experience incredibly difficult because I can have trouble separating the originality from the quality of film-making present. So, when I sat down to watch The Gift, I was treated (for the first act of the film, at ...
