Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

ranking inflation portrayed by people giving rankings like 70 or 80 to films they think suck tells me many people also wouldn't be any good at assigning any arbitrary midpoints or other milestones. Ok. But what about people who rank movies they deem "very good" at 87 and have them in thei...

Re: From Tiers to Percentiles: Introducing a Big New Change to Criticker

this is kind of my whole point though: TCI's are made higher or lower by something that's irrelevant to taste, and ideally that wouldn't be the case. i have acquaintances with middling TCIs who clearly have more compatible tastes with me than some of my top TCIs do, but solely because of different ...

Thank you for having an open mind about it and thank you for listening.

Re: [new] Prediction Accuracy Index (PAI)

My suggestion has an additional element, though, that you could add to your implementation: the Prediction Accuracy Index (PAI) . explanation: see OP in short: It's a measure of how accurate your predictions are and is calculated as follows: PAI = ∅ difference / (maxscore-minscore) maxscore: score o...

Re: [new] Prediction Accuracy Index (PAI)

I suppose they're pretty similar […] Unfortunately, we just don't have time to do a thorough analysis into how the implemented system differs from your suggestion. Comparing your image below to my codeblock above, I'd say it's exactly the same. https://www.criticker.com/img/blog/accuracy.png

Re: Autovote when it guess well.

This would unduly influence/change voting behaviour and as such I recommend against it. Criticker should not become a self-fulfilling prophecy (a prediction that directly or indirectly causes itself to become true, by the very terms of the prophecy itself), but stay in the business of making good pr...

Re: Incorrect PSI generation

[…] problem, of "tier-based" TCIs entering the system even though you've switched to percentiles. It was a tough one to track down […] we've been monitoring now for a couple days […] If it happens again […] we might put our heads through a wall. :| Forgive me for saying so, but it appears...

[new] system fails for users who rate few bad films

a major problem involving the Tier/Percentiles method still remains: […] it's natural, while we watch more and more films, to avoid some of them because they do not interest us or because we think they're bad, etc. And eventually, in the long run, 80% of our ratings will include films we enjoy and ...

Re: Movie Listing Name...

I saw that but I wasn't sure if they were two different movies in the same series. Full Moon has so many alternate titles for the same movie but so many movies that are similar to each other as well that it gets confusing what is what. Have you clicked on the link in the first footnote in Wikipedia...

[intheworks] unintended consequences of comparing percentile ranks

@mpowell: Over the years, I read more and more examples of postings of users not really understanding criticker's idiosyncracy of comparing percentile ranks of scores rather than the scores themselves. This leads to unintended consequences, like changing users' voting behaviour. Here is an example o...
