I never buy it. When main character needs to hide or some kind of help, there it is: a perfect old friend with a perfect house, which is a mystical sanctuary. Usually the scenery is so exaggerated: ridiculously well decorated house in perfect location, etc.

Twister - house in the desert of Helen Hunt's aunt (?)
