Car chases, battle scenes, sporting events etc, etc, are action sequences too.

And?
You are missing Shogun's point totally. His point is that having a martial arts sequence in Oldboy doesn't make Oldboy a martial arts movie any more than Richard Gere hitting Jason Alexander in Pretty Woman makes Pretty Woman an action movie.d

You're quibbling about how much m.a. qualifies to let something be called m.a. Kung Fu Panda is a martial arts movie, only there no one takes the martial arts action seriously because its animated; whereas in live action, it's absurd for all but the faithful--who are the same ones who can't/won't see a parody for what it is. The m.a. sequences in Oldboy, may or may not make it a m.a. movie, but that wasn't the point of including them; parody was.

Maybe. But that has nothing to do with discussion in the last few posts.

Discussions move from pt. A to pt. B, which brought us to the situation where Shogun offered what he considered to be a quality movie, but which I can only reject as such. An impasse by any other name would be as unbridgeable.
