That would make sense for the few times we seem him "acting" within the movie but what about all of the off camera stuff?
I don't think i've ever seen him play a good role honestly, he might be one of the most awful actors alive.
the tv show "entourage" is about that very fact, you know?
i think any credit Whalberg gets in that movie should go directly to PTA for turning "lemons into lemonade."
I haven't watched "Boogie Nights" yet, but I have seen Wahlberg give some competent performances. While the film had flaws, I thought he was very good in "Rock Star".
I think he suffers from starring in lots of really awful films with pathetic scripts; The Corrupter, The Italian Job re-make, I Heart Huckabees, Three Kings, and Fear were all fucking abysmal. Hard for anyone to look good in those.
And heh, it's not really fair to bring up "Entourage"; there is no moderately famous actor alive worse than Adrien Grenier. (And maybe there never has been) Keanu Reeves is Laurence Olivier crossed with Marlon Brando compared to Grenier.
