Why? There's no rational foundation for such a belief. In fact scientific inquiry into racial differences is quashed before it is begun, for fear of what they might find. The president of Harvard was even pummeled for suggesting that there were intellectual differences between men and women, without even saying either was overall superior.
But the issue here isn't even race, it's having a monopoly on a superior religion, meaning having God on their side, thus being the chosen people. I'm pro modern Israel, but they have a brutal genocidal history themselves. What sets a people apart is how well they establish a rule of law for their country which promotes good order without a legal/moral double standard--the root of all evil. And I'd say modern Israel drew a lot on the example of some courageous goyim bourgeois Americans who believed God didn't interact with any of us....at all. (RE: the deist catch phrase, "Nature's God", that Jefferson used in the DoI.) And even though they did start off on the left, even with pockets of local communism (kibbutzim), they've been moving steadily to the capitalist right.
Believing that you have God or race on your side is without a reasonable foundation and thus irrational, and further thus, unhealthy, and the respective definitions of bigoted and racist. Honorable competition is healthy. I don't know what happened to Martin Luther King's vision of a color blind society, but it appears to have died when he was assassinated--which likely happened, at least in part, for that very reason.
