Yep, it completely dumbed down the depth and thoughtfulness of the ending, and by extension, the entire work.

Uh, really? I thought the casting was at best mediocre, if not downright poor. Matthew Goode as Ozymandias was just laughably bad, from both a physical and acting standpoint. (He didn't remotely look like Ozymandias nor convey his personality) Jackie Earl Haley as Rorschach was also subpar, although mostly for failing the physical aspect. Malin Akerman acted like a mindless bimbo, which is most definitely not what Laurie was supposed to be. The only character who really fit his role was Jeffrey Dean Morgan as The Comedian. And as luck would have it, he gets killed off at the start of the picture!

Goode was subpar and Akerman was poor. I actually really liked Haley, Morgan, Wilson and Crudup. When you say Haley fails physically, do you mean choreographed fighting or? He is pretty dead on appearance wise, short, red haired and ugly.

Haley doesn't match the appearance at all for me, either in terms of body (I believe, off the top of my head, that Rorschach was supposed to be 5' 8" and 150+ pounds, not 5' 5" and even slimmer like Haley was) or face. (A shock of red hair, and wild, slightly dumb-looking, zealous face)
