Re: Top 10 highest-scoring actors (10 film minimum)

My top 10 is quite surprising to myself:

1. The Marx Brothers 8.60 (10)
2. Peter Lorre 8.40 (10)
3. Thomas Mitchell 8.30 (10)
4. Natalie Wood 8.30(10)
5. Anthony Quayle 8.25 (12)
6. Humphrey Bogart 8.22 (23)
7. Daryl Hannah 8.18 (11)
8. Mia Farrow 8.17 (18)
9. C. Aubrey Smith (Who???) 8.10 (10)
10. Marlene Dietrich 7.36 (11)

Conclusion: Actors with exactly ten or eleven films benefit. Actors with a lot of supporting roles in classics get an excellent score.

This is the result with a minimum of twenty films:

1. Humphrey Bogart 8.22 (23)
2. Scarlett Johansson 7.86 (28)
3. Ingrid Bergman 7.71 (21)
4. Cary Grant 7.36 (28)
5. James Stewart 7.29 (24)
6. Gene Hackman 7.19 (21)
7. Shirley MacLaine 7.00 (20)
8. Jack Lemmon 6.95 (21)
9. Sean Connery 6.89 (27)
10. Donald Sutherland 6.86 (22)
11. Fred Astaire 6.77 (22)
12. Al Pacino 6.75 (24)
13. Woody Allen 6.67 (39)
14. Mel Blanc 6.61 (33)
15. Louis de Funès 6.59 (22)
16. Robert De Niro 6.58 (31)
17. Dustin Hoffman 6.55 (22)
18. Gérard Depardieu 6.52 (23)
19. Nicole Kidman 6.47 (32)
20. Oliver Hardy 6.40 (43)

Now this is beginning to look like a best actor list!

snallygaster wrote:I'm kind of surprised that users with around the same number of rankings as me have so many 10+ actors. I only have three 10s and a 12.

Probably has to do with the amount of Hollywood productions you see, I have counted 4 actors with 10 films minimum and around 51% of the films I watch are American.

Max von Sydow (10) 80.8
Robert De Niro (10) 71.60
Charlie Chaplin (10) 68.20
Brad Pitt (11) 65.45
Johnny Depp (10) 56.20
Samuel L. Jackson (11) 55.64
George Clooney (11) 50.45

I guess a few more Bergman actors will pop up there when I watch films like Scenes From a Marriage and Hour of the Wolf. Perhaps Tatsuya Nakadai soon as well, and Mifune. It's Clooney's roles in two Spy Kids films that drags it down for him, even though I watch those when I was a kid. For Jackson it's because of the Star Wars films...

Re: Top 10 highest-scoring actors (10 film minimum)

Fairly interesting list. I guess I really do have something against pre-'70s films.

Harry Dean Stanton 85.27 (11)
John Hurt 79.62 (13)
Harrison Ford 78.71 (14)
Robert De Niro 78.55 (20)
Jack Nicholson 78.07 (14)
Julianne Moore 77.20 (10)
Ian Holm 76.75 (12)
Al Pacino 75.60 (15)
Brad Pitt 75.38 (16)
Willem Dafoe 75.08 (12)

Bottom 10:

John Travolta 47.36 (11)
Adam Sandler 50.64 (14)
Arnold Schwarzenegger 51.71 (17)
Sylvester Stallone 52.75 (20)
Jack Black 53.18 (11)
Frank Welker 55.20 (20)
Ben Affleck 56.36 (11)
Don Cheadle 57.50 (10)
John Turturro 58.70 (10) -- Transformers and Mr. Deeds have really done a number on him
Val Kilmer 61.50 (10)

I have written about this here - viewtopic.php?f=8&t=2654&p=26529

Okay, so let's try that:
Actor - (Avg. Score / Avg. Tier) - #
John Cusack - (92.30 / 8.50) - 10
Bruce Willis - (84.80 / 7.10) - 10
Tim Robbins - (80.10 / 6.90) - 10
Bill Murray - (83.08 / 7.00) - 12
Joan Cusack - (81.64 / 6.73) - 11 (from Toy Story 2 to Toys)
Steve Buscemi - (81.80 / 6.60) - 10
Brad Pitt - (83.44 / 6.56) - 16
Winona Ryder - (82.90 / 6.20) - 10
Geoffrey Rush - (79.30 / 5.90) - 10
Gene Hackman - (82.40 / 5.80) - 10

Bruce Willis, Tim Robbins and Geoffrey Rush all qualified through movies seen in the last week. Man, I'm such a child of the 80s/young adult of the 90s.

Bottom of the list:
Arnold Schwarzenegger - (70.50 / 4.5) - 10 (The Long Goodbye!)
Robert De Niro - (64.75 / 4.13) - 16
Tom Cruise - (61.64 / 3.82) - 11
Julia Roberts - (60.36 / 3.57) - 14
Robin Williams - (53.79 / 3.50) - 14

Re: Top 10 highest-scoring actors (10 film minimum)

1. Al Pacino - 75.46 - 13
2. Philip Seymour Hoffman - 74.91 - 22
3. Alec Guinness - 74.27 - 11
4. Emily Watson - 74.00 - 11
5. Bill Murray - 71.85 - 276
6. Robert De Niro - 71.23 - 22
7. Clint Eastwood - 70.21 - 24
8. Sigourney Weaver - 70.00 - 14
9. Frances McDormand - 69.91 - 11
10. Jack Nicholson - 69.64 - 11

I did make one exception. Top of my list with a minimum of 10 films is actually John Ratzenberger with 81.58 from 12 films. They are all voice acting however and some are minor roles. I like his work voice acting a lot, but it just didn't seem right putting him on the list.
