Re: Who are the ten directors you have seen the most films by?

I'm only including directors of feature length films. (This is kind of a difficult list as some of my favorite directors haven't even directed 20 films.)

1) Alfred Hitchcock 67.10 50
2) Takashi Miike 68.52 48
3) Johnnie To 73.22 32
4) Jing Wong 63.91 32
5) Yasujiro Ozu 70.19 31
6) Akira Kurosawa 82.79 29
7) Hark Tsui 67.52 27
8) Sammo Kam-Bo Hung 76.88 25
9) Woo-Ping Yuen 76.48 25
10) Kenji Mizoguchi 64.79 24

As for Shorts

1) Chuck Jones 57.82 159
2) Georges Méliès 40.27 157
3) Jules White 43.17 123
4) Friz Freleng 46.25 95
5) Edwin S. Porter 30.71 90
6) Auguste Lumière 24.86 80
7) Louis Lumière 29.91 75
8) Alice Guy 30.39 67
9) Dave Fleischer 50.80 65
10) Walt Disney 43.76 54

Jesus Franco avg 57.36 (T4) 36 films
Takashi Miike avg 74.69 (T8) 16 films
Steven Spielberg avg 58.38 (T4) 16 films
Woo-ping Yuen avg 79.93 (T9) 14 films
Lucio Fulci avg 64.58 (T6) 12 films
Chia-Liang Liu avg 90.58 (T10) 12 films
Terry Gilliam avg 77.50 (T8) 12 films
John Landis avg 60.42 (T5) 12 films
Richard Donner avg 52.27 (T4) 11 films
George A. Romero avg 68.09 (T7) 11 films
Wes Craven avg 46.82 (T3) 11 films

Dominated by smut, gore and kung fu. Yup, that reveals a lot about me. 8-)

This was my list in 2012, let's update it.

Jesús Franco 57.00 40 films
Takashi Miike 74.74 19 films
Kenji Misumi 78.75 16 films
Steven Spielberg 58.38 16 films
Kinji Fukasaku 78.93 14 films
Woo-ping Yuen 79.93 14 films
Chia-Liang Liu 88.62 13 films
Terry Gilliam 76.54 13 films
Lucio Fulci 62.69 13 films
John Landis 58.08 13 films

That's right, I haven't watched a single new film directed by Spielberg (meh) or Yuen Woo-ping (need to remedy that) in nearly 7 years. Misumi and Fukasaku the only new additions to the list, mainly because I finally got around to watching all the Zatoichi and Yakuza Papers films.

Re: Who are the ten directors you have seen the most films by?

Steven Spielberg 60.96 27
Joel/Ethan Coen 76.41 17
Terry Gilliam 73.82 17
Takeshi Kitano 74.35 17
Alfred Hitchcock 76.20 15
Ingmar Bergman 78.87 15
Akira Kurosawa 83.79 14
Hayao Miyazaki 80.64 14
Takashi Miike 77.36 14
Stanley Kubrick 76.85 13
Tim Burton 61.85 13

I wouldn't count Spielberg among my favorite directors but I do think he's the quintessential Hollywood director, with easily digestable, entertaining popcorn flicks great for watching over a few beers with friends or when I'm too tired for something more serious.

Places 11-20, with 9-12 movies ranked, include many of my favorite directors: Kar-Wai Wong, Sion Sono, Masaki Kobayashi, Martin Scorsese, Quentin Tarantino, Ki-duk Kim, Chan-wook Park, Ji-woon Kim, Isao Takahata, Wes Anderson.
