Re: Orson Welles
I just saw this in its 'completed' form, and although Welles didn't finish it by himself, I wouldn't worry about its fidelity. This is unmistakably Welles' film - you can feel his presence all over it. Not only because it is highly biographical, but it really is fundamentally audacious. Welles appar...

Re: Where can I rent obscure movies?
MUBI is pretty good. Thirding the Library (if you become friends with your A/V acquisitions rep you may be able to get rare DVDs, in addition to Kanopy services). MUBI is also a good resource and they have a rental section now, which flies under the radar. I'm a huge proponent of supporting the off...

Re: Do you change your ratings ?
On very rare occasions. If I return to a film and my opinion has reversed (this has happened), I will full on delete my old score and upload a new one, since it's like a new viewing experience. If someone's starred a review, I might tweak the score up or down but the text is locked in stone. As I ch...

Re: Black Panther
The thing is though, these superhero films are just shallow. If these themes ever crop up in these films it's always extremely superficial. My main issue with superhero films, as I've stated, is that they're far less risque than their comic counterparts and most of the films feel very samey. After ...

Re: Black Panther
PendejoJorge I in many ways sympathize with your point, but I'm mostly on the other side of this particular fence. While Black Panther may lampshade pan-Africanism and globalization, that's ultimately not what the film is about - it's about an African dude who wears a cat suit and beats the shit out...

Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
OK, I've been totally lurking in the corners reading the responses in this thread. As is perfectly clear in my review on this here site of The Last Jedi, I liked it, a lot, despite its very present flaws in places, and am happy to be its Devil's Advocate. A couple things: Indeed the fault does fall ...

Re: Black Panther
OK so for giggles, a comic book socio-political freeform thought game: Black Panther: cultural identity, colonialism, post-modern Africana, diaspora, aggression vs. non-violence, political succession, urban violence, weapons proliferation, globalization Logan - exploitation of immigrants, national i...
