Re: What proportion of your ranked movies are by women?

As of January 2020: 4.76%, or 236 of 4961 that I've seen (up from 4.33% in March 2018)

This represents 5.14% of the female directors collection.

Summing up the last decade, some of my favorite films of the decade were made by women, including:
Lucretia Martel's "Zama" (Argentina) which is my 2nd favorite film of the whole decade,
Ramsay's "We Need to Talk about Kevin" and "You Were Never Really Here" (USA),
"Crystal Swan" by Daria Zhuk (Belarus),
"Zero Motivation" by Talya Lavie (Israel),
"American Honey" by Andrea Arnold (USA),
"The Souvenir" and "Archipelago" by Joanna Hogg (UK) whom I'm delighted to have discovered, quite recently,
Varda's "Faces, Places" (France), Kathryn Bigelow's films, and more...

Interestingly a whopping 15% of them are in my Tier 10. So good job women, please direct more movies.

My top three spots are taken by Lina Wertmuller films, and after that I have stuff by Lynne Ramsay, Margarethe von Trotta (with V. Schloendorff), Vera Chytilova, Kathryn Bigelow, Forugh Farrokhzad, Jodie Foster, Marjane Satrapi, Lotte Reiniger, Elaine May...

March, 2016
134 of 3993, or 3.36%.

Which means up .51% from 4 years ago. Favorites remain Lina Wertmuller and Lynne Ramsay.
I intend to increase that intake further.

Re: What proportion of your ranked movies are by women?

While I have no doubt being a woman influences some female directors heavily, I think there are others where if you watched their films, would have no idea it was made by a female.

Compare say a Sofia Coppola to a Kathryn Bigelow? Coppola's work feels softer, perhaps more vaginal? That may bother some men. The word itself makes some men uncomfortable. Vagina.

I mean coitus.
