Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
For my lifelong interest in Star Wars and the journeys of the characters I felt like the Last Jedi destroyed my interest in the future of the series. It was such a slow burning film that did very little to create threads for the final adventure. In fact it closed all the doors that had previously be...

Re: Black Panther
Parody of its own dramatic source material. Most of the time the animated series' from the mid 90's handled the dramatic aspects better than the cinematic universe. So far I feel like Black Panther is the first film to really focus on the dramatic elements before allowing the humour to naturally for...

Re: Black Panther
That is a fair point about the source material being fantasy based and to remember that when judging the content of a film based on said structure. That being said I think that has translated into both Marvel and DC thinking Fantasy= Parody and they opt fot more humour than usually necessary in orde...

Re: Black Panther
I definitely understand where your critcisms are coming from. I definitely felt the lack of humour was a better approach to this film. Marvel tends to have random ill placed humour. It worked for Deadpool because it was the main tone for Deadpool. Marvel needs to step away from the mashup movies and...

Black Panther
Marvel has definitely struck gold once again or should I say Vibranium once again. This movie is pure cinematic glory in its finest. An isolated origin story that delivers thrills, culture and characterization. Who did not enjoy that delightfully cooky performance from Serkis and Chadwick Boseman is...

Downsizing
A super cool concept, scaled down into a minimal plot that was very incoherent and misguided. Matt Damon does not really have much depth to work with so there is very little drama to be created around his character. It also misses on the satire and the none of the characters jump to life because the...

Molly's Game
Razor sharp dialogue and precise focus from Aaron Sorkin in his directorial debut. Chastain was sensational layering Molly Bloom with both tenacity and mystery. Her narrative is what drives the film forward a long with the chemistry and scenes she shares with Idris Elba. A fantastic high stakes dram...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
I think that by leaving us on the precipice of a decision of whether to continue or not to propel the cycle of violence, the director/writer is asking the viewer themselves whether they want to continue the cycle of violence in their own lives. That is an interesting take on the ending. I can defin...

Re: Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri (2017)
Easily one of my favorite films so far in 2017 (still have a lot left to watch) thanks largely to the fact that like you said it did not wrap things in a way we were expecting. McDormand and Harrelson were great together and Harrelson's character went in a direction that was completely unexpected.
