Re: how to deal with your own changing taste over time ?

@VinegarBob:
thanks for sharing your experience. So I guess you are in category 3 then, inasmuch as you probably won't rerank Predator 1 without rewatching it?

[new] enable "Notify me when a reply is posted" by default

 suggestion: tick "notify me when a reply is posted" by default (particularly for the thread-starter, but I think it would be a good idea generally) https://i.imgur.com/8HQpUrt.png rationale: 1. some users are unaware of the checkbox and don't know they have to tick it to be notified 2. even ...

[new] broken
syntax

before I edited it, this posting contained the following:

• "How do you rate movies you have abandonned halfway through ?"[/*:m]
• "How do you rate movies you have seen a long time ago ?"[/*:m][/list:u] The [/*:m] and the [/*:m][/list:u] tags above were definitely not...

Re: how to deal with your own changing taste over time ?

I never said it wasn't natural.
But if it occurs, it is handled one way or the other.
I don't know if you read the OP, but there are basically 3 different ways to handle changing taste.

www.criticker.com/?search=Jurassic+Parc&type=films has Jurassic Parc at the 16th position only (should be first).

In your ratings, how do you account for the novelty factor and the chronological order in which you watched your movies?

I often struggle with how to accurately score movies. This topic is part of a series dealing with voting-related problems, challenges, phenomenons and paradoxes — all as part of a quest whose end-goal is to correctly reflect my appreciation of movies when rating them: ⋅ • On what basis do...

Re: how to deal with your own changing taste over time ?

I only change my vote for the worse when I feel it's justified. […] So unless I have a good reason, I try to never change a rating for the worse. And it has to be rewatch-based. This is an unexpected (and therefore very welcome) answer. I expected that people would be either open to changing their ...

Re: how to deal with your own changing taste over time ?

Some movies become stale due to too many rewatches , due to you watching them at home instead of a big screen or due your current mood. Sometimes even the absence of 3D. Those things don't count. good point. especially for movies for which the elements of surprise are very important. PS: I also quo...

Re: how to deal with your own changing taste over time ?

I am definitely in category 2. Whenever I add a film, I sometimes am confronted with the recognition that my mind has changed somewhat with the passing of time, and I assign different values to reflect those changes. Aren't you "afraid" (for lack of a better word) that by re-ranking a fil...

Re: On what basis do you rate films ?

@chmul_cr0n: thank you for taking so much time to share your thoughts with all of us here in such detail. Your wonderful posting is so self-evident when I read it, that I am wondering and actually have no clue how on Earth I could have asked this topic's main question ( On what basis do you rate fil...
