Re: On what basis do you rate films ?

"Like" and "Good" categories should work in combination. As suggested, it is hard to separate. To claim that they can be dissected and to say that one can like an obviously "bad" film, would be an affront to viewer's own taste. "Like/Enjoy" cannot override &qu...

Re: Motivated VS Unmotivated Camera Movement (Video Essay)

In some cases, motivated camera movements make me feel imbecile. For me, they put me/the viewer in a position of infancy. They dictate and impose a special, desired feeling on behalf of the viewer. They emphasize, underline, establish that desired effect. And I sense it. I am not saying that all of ...

Re: Best Picture Oscar and Tier 10 (and Palme d'Or)

Or, in other words, the last time a film that won Best Picture also made it into my top tier was 40 years ago. Of more recent movies, No Country for Old Men (2007) made it into Tier 9. In fact, I figured out your problem. Yo are not watching enough movies! Applying the law that 90% of all movies do...

Re: Best Picture Oscar and Tier 10

I'd add Midnight Cowboy, A Man for All Seasons, Hamlet, My Fair Lady, On the Waterfront, All Quiet on Western Front, Sunrise, One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. [Also in my top tier, but can be left outside because they have also lots of non-lovers: Birdman, The English Patient, Shakespeare in Love, T...

Re: What's your favourite classic mystery or noir that's NOT listed as popular or very popular in the database?

I'll suggest three movies (only mystery & thriller):

5 Fingers (1952): a spy movie with James Mason, set in WWII neutral Ankara.

Topkapi (1964): a great heist movie by Jules Dassin, set in Istanbul

Deadlier Than the Male (1956): a good French thriller with Jean Gabin

Why do you rate Turkish movies with 1? If you are really honest about only putting TV ratings, do so.

Re: List of aggregate users / bots

But many times their scores seem almost random or based on weird factors, such as 3 aggregate users giving that Lego movie a 99. So I began ignoring these users in order to prevent them from mucking up my recommendations That's good. You rightly ignore a few misusers who throw away random ratings t...

Re: List of aggregate users / bots

The point is the ability to make use of the data. Some of these accounts are very helpful if you really delve into it. After all, they are all aggregate averages that can indicate the different tastes in different locations. For instance, you can use the account avgcrtckr to assess the distribution ...
