What is it the Tiers thing?

Wondering how Criticker works, or have a question that doesn't seem to fit under requests or bugs?

I have thing a little T and see tiers X I do not know what is it? Any help? Thanks and regards.

Tiers is how the whole criticker system works. It allows you to use your own personal scoring system and then separates these films into 10 equal tiers so that the site can compare you to others in the database who use a different scoring system.

Let's say you watch 10 films that cross the full spectrum of your taste and you score them 10, 20, 30, 40, 50, 60, 70, 80, 90 and 100 respectively. Now imagine someone else watches the same films and feels exactly the same about each only they don't want to score films out of 100, they are happier to just score all films out of 10, so they score them 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10. And now another person who just loves all films merely appreciating some more than others and he scores the same films 91, 92, 93, 94, 95, 96, 97, 98, 99 and 100.

So ... if you take the middle film from each of you (remember in this example it's the same film). It got one score of 50, one score of 5 and one score of 95. If you just compare the scores it seems like you thought the film was ok (50), the second thought it was terrible (5) and the third thought it was brilliant (95) but we know that's not the case. So instead we use the Tier system and in each example above the film score is equivalent to T5, which suggests all three people felt the same about it which we know is correct. This is how criticker than makes recommendations. If the second and third person above now watch the same new film and they score it 9 and 99 respectively, that is Tier 9 for both. Because your tier 9 score is 90 and because your score films on the same tier as those others, criticker will predict that you will give this film a score of 90 if you watch it.
