What proportion of your ranked movies are American?

On 23 February 2011, I wrote:

I know that the way Criticker designates what country a movie is from does not always seem to make a lot of sense. Nevertheless, it may be interesting to take this information at face value, and ask what proportion of movies users have ranked are counted by Criticker as American.

For myself, 1439 out of 2251 movies are listed by Criticker as being from the USA, which is close to 64%.

Seven years later:

USA: 2370 out of 3915 = 60.5%
UK: 621 = 15.9%
France: 518 = 13.2%
Germany + West Germany: 199 + 82 = 7.2%
Italy: 178 = 4.5%
Canada: 163 = 4.2%
Japan: 131 = 3.3%
Australia: 130 = 3.3%
Spain: 80 = 2.0%
Sweden: 67 = 1.7%
Denmark: 58 = 1.5%
Iran: 39 = 1.0%
Soviet Union + Russia: 26 + 13 = 1.0%

All the same qualifications about the country designations on Criticker still apply seven years later. For example, it is not even remotely true that I have seen 163 Canadian movies.

I don't have time to a full breakdown but

USA: 80.6%
Non-USA: 32.3%


I've been watching a lot of Classic Hollywood recently so it's not likely going to happen anytime soon but I would love if that number could get below 70%. I'd really like to have a more diverse consumption of pop culture, in all senses of the term.
