Probably has to do with the amount of Hollywood productions you see, I have counted 4 actors with 10 films minimum and around 51% of the films I watch are American.

Max von Sydow (10) 80.8
Robert De Niro (10) 71.60
Charlie Chaplin (10) 68.20
Brad Pitt (11) 65.45
Johnny Depp (10) 56.20
Samuel L. Jackson (11) 55.64
George Clooney (11) 50.45

I guess a few more Bergman actors will pop up there when I watch films like Scenes From a Marriage and Hour of the Wolf. Perhaps Tatsuya Nakadai soon as well, and Mifune. It's Clooney's roles in two Spy Kids films that drags it down for him, even though I watch those when I was a kid. For Jackson it's because of the Star Wars films...

Well for me at least I generally have to like the actors to like the film. For example I don't really care for Paul Dano even though he gives good performances. He's in a new movie called Ruby Sparks. Stylistically it seems like a movie I should really like, yet I'm less inclined to go see if because Dano is the lead. I guess actors are just more important to me than they are you.

Something else to consider is that I have no 10+ directors or screenwriters. For directors I have two 9's (Wes Anderson, and Christopher Nolan) and screenwriters I also have two 9's (Wes Anderson, John Hughes). Even when you lower it to 8 films I only have about 4 or 5 each. In fact you have to lower it down to 6 films before I have more than 10 directors or screenwriters.

That's interesting. So, for you it would be a complete impossibility to like a film with amateur or virtually unknown actors? Looking at your ratings you don't have much foreign film - say, would it be impossible for you to enjoy a film by Robert Bresson for example because of his reoccurring use of amateur actors (he makes the most out of them though and I personally believe that it has many advantages)? It just seems to me, so absurd to judge a movie on not the directing prowess of it but because of how much you like the actors even regardless of how good actors they are.

Added Johnny Depp to my list after seeing Chocolate...

That makes it sound like all I care about are big name Hollywood actors, which is not the case. Its more about me not watching movies with actors I don't like. So with Bresson even if the actors aren't people I'm familiar with I could still like his films if I liked other aspects of it. Who knows? I could very well end up liking the actors he choose. So usually after 1-3 movies I can tell if I don't like an actor. Then its not like I won't ever watch another film with that actor. Its just something I probably consider more than other people when deciding if I should watch a film. So going back to Paul Dano and the new movie Ruby Sparks, there still is a good chance I'll eventually see the movie. Its just the difference between me being really excited and wanting to see it ASAP, or not caring as much and waiting till it comes out on DVD.

Claude Rains 84.83 (12 movies)
William Holden 84.14 (14 movies)
Walter Brennan 83.77 (13 movies)
Barbara Stanwyck 83.70 (10 movies)
Shelley Winters 83.30 (10 movies)
Cary Grant 83.08 (25 movies)
Joseph Cotten 82.67 (15 movies)
Ward Bond 81.88 (16 movies)
Karl Malden 81.58 (12 movies)
Orson Welles 81.46 (13 movies)

Interesting, list could be very different if I watched a few more movies from Bergman, Kurosawa etc, now I havent rated 10 movies from them yet and its a list entirely consisting of classic Hollywood actors.

I've made an attempt to post my list twice, but twice now have accidentally closed the window before posting. Let's give it another go.

Natalie Portman 80.64, (11 films)
Brad Pitt 79.55, (22 films)
Ralph Fiennes 78.70, (10 films)
Harrison Ford 78.31, (16 films)
Guy Pearce 78.00, (10 films)
Bill Murray 77.57, (14 films)
Michael Caine 77.46, (13 films)
Alan Rickman 77.27, (15 films)
Brian Cox 77.23, (13 films)
Jeff Bridges 77.00, (11 films)
Maggie Smith 77.00, (10 films)

I wish my list did include some older actors active during the 50's and 60's, but truth be told, I haven't watched enough films from before the early 90's. I guess it's my age or something. I make an effort to watch older movies, but it's not as if they're readily available, and my wife is bored to tears if we watch something that was released before she was born.

I admit, I ranked the Star Wars prequels too high. I tried to rank them without comparing them to the original trilogy, and I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so it was hard to be too tough on them. And I've also got a soft spot for the Harry Potter films. I mean, none of them are absolutely stellar, but I'm a fantasy geek, and that stuff gets to me.

In fact, Viggo Mortensen would have made the list if it wasn't for the stuff he did pre-Lord of the Rings.

I'm sad because Joseph Gordon-Levitt will never make this list as he was in both Beethoven and Angels in the Outfield.

Frank Welker has an unhappy distinction. I've seen more of his films than anyone else at 26, but he's in my bottom four. Half of his films I've scored a 50 or less. And I don't even know what this guy really looks like. Apparently he's a voice actor.

Rob Schneider is my lowest ranked actor, having the only average film ranking below 50. My highest ranked Rob Schneider film is Grandma's Boy, sitting at 68.

Needless to say I never would have guessed this list and it is very far from representative of my favorite actors.

Here are my bottom 5:
1. Clive Owen - 22.00 (very worst ranked)
2. Arnold Schwarzenegger
3. Malcolm McDowell
4. Jim Carrey
5. Keith David

I've done some tweaking of my rankings, like I often do as I compare films, and there's been some changes to my list as a result.

1. Natalie Portman 80.64, (11 films)
2. Brad Pitt 79.45, (22 films) -0.1 score
3. Harrison Ford 78.31, (16 films) +1 rank
4. John Ratzenberger 78.09, (11 films) NEW!
-----caught up on my Pixar, I guess
5. Brian Cox 78.00, (14 films) +0.73 score / +4 rank / +1 film
5. Michael Caine 78.00, (14 films) +0.54 score / +2 rank / +1 film
-----saw rise of the Planet of the Apes and ranked it.
5. Guy Pierce 78.00, (10 films)
8. Bill Murray 77.57, (14 films) -3 rank
9. Ralph Fiennes 77.20, (10 films) -1.5 score / -6 rank
10. Jeff Bridges 77.00, (11 films)
10. Maggie Smith 77.00, (10 films)

Notable lack of Alan Rickman 76.67, (15 films). Small adjustments, but that lands him in 12th.

Bottom 5: Frank Welker (53.42, 26 films), Sylvester Stallone (53.42, 12 films), Janeane Garofalo (53.36, 11 films), Adam Sandler (52.15, 13 films), and Rob Schneider is still in last (48.69, 13 films). Rob Schneider is officially the only actor better off appearing in Adam Sandler movies.

Putting together this list was quite an interesting exercise, as my top 10 list of actors with 10+ movies includes a surprising 3 actors who have acted more in supporting roles than leading roles in the movies in which I've seen them, including the top overall spot overall:

Top 10:
1. James Earl Jones 63.75 (12)
2. James Stewart 61.85 (27)
3. Ward Bond 59.62 (13)
4. Sean Connery 58.53 (17)
5. Cary Grant 57.73 (11)
6. John Wayne 56.05 (19)
7. Katharine Hepburn 55.42 (12)
8. Paul Newman 55.00 (11)
9. Henry Fonda 53.18 (11)
10. Joe Pesci 52.73 (11)

The bottom 5 surprised me even more, as it contains a number of actors who I actually like, but who are often in movies that I don't. I guess it is primarily due to the fact that I try to avoid watching 10 movies of actors that I don't actually like.

Bottom 5:
1. Chris Rock 22.00 (10)
2. Drew Barrymore 22.31 (13)
3. Jim Broadbent 22.92 (12)
4. Cameron Diaz 23.21 (14)
5. Keith David 23.33 (15)
