1960's Murder Mystery, Twin brother lives in a dungeon

Post by freddyb »

Twin brother A is showing people around this Mansion, but people start dying. At some point they discover there's an empty dungeon in the Mansion. Twin brother A explains it was for his brother who was a deranged psychopath and he had to live in the dungeon since childhood - but now he's escaped!

I don't remember much else except at the end we find out the actual "nice" twin was killed long ago and this whole time the deranged psychopathic brother was the one showing people around the house.

There is a Simpson's Treehouse of Horror that was similar (Bart has a twin brother Hugo who lives in their attic and eats only fish heads) but Wikipedia doesn't credit any move as being the inspiration for that Simpson's episode.

I always thought it was a Vincent Price movie, something like House on Haunted Hill but it's definitely not that movie.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks for the reply! I saw the mention of Basket Case, but it's definitely not that one. Basket Case is a pretty funny movie btw

What you're describing sounds very similar to a 1963 film called Paranoiac. The story is about a british family: a mother, a brother, and a sister. They're all grieving for the loss of a second brother who supposedly committed suicide. Then that same guy shows up alive and well. The other brother is paranoid that this guy isn't the real thing, and the story focuses on whether this guy is who he says he is.
At the end of the movie, it's revealed that the skeptical brother, who has been playing the piano in a dungeon-like room, actually killed the man in question and stuffed his body in the wall. It ends with the dungeon being set on fire with the killer still inside.
