Comedy Western (Not Blazing Saddles)

I saw this on TV in the late 80's and thought it was hilarious.
All the good guys wore white hats and, yes, the bad guys wore black hats.
One scene is where our hero is being chased on horse-back (by a gang?) and he pulls up the horse.
The horse then automatically lies down to provide a shield for our hero (as opposed to a serious Western where the hero has to wrestle the horse to the ground.)
A long shot I know....
