Brief Encounter
It wasn't the acting, the directing or the story not really, it was all about the dialogue. The acting is solid Trevor Howard, Celia Johnson, and Cyril Raymond all gave multilayered performances. The direction and score were superb and they complimented each other wonderfully. The story is one often told though not usually as delicately as it was here. The dialogue and the films pacing swept me up and kept me engaged the entire time and I really liked how the film let me have my own feelings about the affair and not try and force things one way or the other. The ending was suitably sad and full of emotion but for me the strongest part of the film came at the very end with the exchange between Laura and Fred.
