Best Game-Based Movie So Far
I know most video game based films do not, almost never, make it to a successful rating to audiences, especially fans of that particular game. Some or most of you may not agree with me, but I can say that not EVERY film of that type of genre has failed. If I had to say so... it would be either Mortal Kombat (1995) or Silent Hill (2006). I can honestly say that these two films somewhat followed some elements from the original piece while Hollywood, once again, screws it up and makes the way they want it. What I give credit to these films is that they followed most of the characters quite well, along with a little follow up of story. Now I ask to whoever is reading this: Is there any game-based film that you liked, at least?

I would say the best I have seen is "Super Mario Bros". Here was my review;
"When I watched this as an 8 year-old, I hated the film because it was so different than the video game. When I re-watched it at 15, I discovered a funny, fast-paced, entertaining film with excellent performances by Dennis Hopper, John Leguizamo, Bob Hoskins, and Samantha Mathis. JUDGED ON ITS OWN MERITS, "Super Mario Bros." is perfectly worthy, light-hearted entertainment. Just forget about the freaking video game first."
Gave it a 67 ("Decent"), T7.
I have seen the first Mortal Kombat, and just wrote up this review;
"Thankfully, they focused on the fights, several of which are well-choreographed and exciting, if not necessarily "good" by the standards of a Hong Kong film. The talking and story portions are generally terrible and insultingly stupid, but thankfully, don't last for very long. The acting, weak throughout, becomes indefensibly poor in the ending, with Liu Kang (Robin Shou) and Shang Tsung (Tagawa) battling for the title of worst actor in the film. Entertaining for the kids, but not much else."
I gave it a 55 ("Alright"), T5.

Metal Gear Solid 4...wait nevermind I get confused sometimes whether I am playing a game or watching a movie. Often I've zoned out during an hour long cut scene and forget that I'll need to shoot people on the other end of that.

The only movies that aren't red color for me in this collection: http://www.criticker.com/?fl&filter=e3188 are Mortal Kombat (1995) and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: The Cradle of Life (2003) (I have no idea why, but I liked it a lot better than the first one).. So I would say that they are the only passable videogame-to-movie adaptations that I've seen so far.

Try as I might, I just can't think of one. I'll get back to you when something comes to mind.

Well, according to that link, I gave a completely wrong first response to this topic. Not only did I rate the original "Resident Evil" a 68, but if the original Japanese anime "Street Fighter II: The Movie" is included, I gave that one an 80, T10. That movie fucking rocked; it's one of the best action films ever made.
So yes, by far the best game-based movie ever made...is a freaking animation.

Ha! What about all the plot holes, though?!

The film I''ve rated highest out of all of those I've seen is Chanbara Beauty (aka Oneechanbara)... I rated it 60/100 which is in my T4. My review:
It's a low budget movie based on a videogame where a chick in a bikini kills zombies with a sword. It's not Oscar material. It's kinda like Machine Girl meets an episode of Power Rangers or Dragonball Z. Cute girls in digitally enhanced battle could be worse.
Conclusion: I have yet to see a really awesome video game adaptation.

Probably the new Prince of Persia as it was some light hearted fun. Gave it 6/10, so an average 3 star movie.

The only ones I've seen are Silent Hill and Doom. Based on that... definitely Silent Hill.
