Upcoming 2012 movies

Post by djross »

Perhaps it is time to consider the most interesting upcoming movies in the next year. For myself I do not seem to have high expectations for too many films due out in the next twelve months.

Firstly, there are a few 2011 movies that haven't really had a proper release yet that interest me:

House of Tolerance (Bertrand Bonello)
Into the Abyss (Werner Herzog)
This Must Be the Place (Paolo Sorrentino)

Secondly, these are the 2012 movies that I am most excited about:

Cogan’s Trade (Andrew Dominik)
The End (Abbas Kiarostami)
Moonrise Kingdom (Wes Anderson)
Nero Fiddled (Woody Allen)
Untitled Terrence Malick Project (Terrence Malick)
While We’re Young (Noah Baumbach)

Thirdly, there are a few that are not due out until 2013 but which I think are worth mentioning here:

Inside Llewyn Davis (Coen brothers)
Voyage of Time (Terrence Malick)
The Master (Paul Thomas Anderson)

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey

Based on the LOTR series, I predict it will light up the Oscars like a Christmas tree.

Definitely looking forward to The Master (I think there is still a chance it comes out in late 2012, just in time for the Oscars). I'm not even a huge fan of Wes Anderson, but I'd probably see Moonrise Kingdom just because of Edward Norton. Then, of course there is Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises. I'd also see the first part of The Hobbit. David Cronenberg's Cosmopolis sounds interesting. I'd probably also see The Bourne Legacy. John Hillcoat's The Wettest County in the World also sounds good.

They're making a Bourne movie without Matt Damon?

Anyway, I'll probably get round to watching 2012 movies in about 2014 or 15.

Imdb watchlist isn't working for me, so only few titles from memory:
Hardkor 44 - first Polish film in years I'm actually excited to see
The Theatre Bizarre
The ABCs of Death
Iron Sky
Piranha 3DD - with Gulager directing I hope it'll be at least a little bit disgusting
Also few films mentioned earlier - Andersons, "This Must Be the Place", "Prometheus"

In addition to a lot of the stuff already mentioned, Billy Bob Thornton's Jayne Mansfield's Car is in the can.

Yep. I'm not sure if it's going to be some kind of prequel, but Edward Norton is playing the villain, so that gives me enough reason to see it. Plus Jeremy Renner is a pretty good actor. Damon didn't want to return without Paul Greengrass.

Ok, imdb is working again, so few more:
0000 - trailer looks amazing, probably the most interesting SciFi in the making
Morituris - Italian exploitation that looks interesting, this doesn't happen often these days.
Mondo Holocausto! - honestly I know absolutely nothing about this one, just found this on imdb, but since it looks like some kind of tribute to Italian cannibal flicks I'll keep that under the radar.
Le grand soir (Kervern, Delepine) - I love everything those guys made so far, so a must see for me.
