2012 can't possibly be any worse than either 2011 or 2010 (arguably the two single worst years in film history since 1930), so yeah, that's a safe bet.

However, I'm expecting "Django Unchained" to suck and couldn't be less interested in "The Hobbit". Yeah, I loved the book as a kid, it's a timeless classic, but not every piece of fiction needs to be adapted into a Hollywood CGI schlock-fest.

We'll see about "Prometheus".

You've seen just 6 films from 2011, among them only one generally considered very good and you're already making statements like this? Don't you think it's premature?

2011 is a really great year. already 4 movies this year that would make my top 25, and there's still lots of great stuff coming up; This is not a Film, Habemus Papam, Le Havre, Hors Satan, Shame, Another Earth, etc

as for 2012, Karim Ainouz is apparently making a new movie which is the only thing i'm excited about so far. also that Malick film but it probably won't be released until 2016

What's the metric there? I mean, I'd personally consider 2005 a bad year for film; less than 10% of the movies I've seen are in my top 3 tiers. And 2011 is shaping up to be a bit mediocre, but we haven't even gotten through December yet, and that's when most of the great movies come out.
