Too Many Movies
Its so easy now a days to have all kinds of good movies available at your fingertips. in fact my list of movies to watch is too big for me to narrow it down. What is a good system for selecting a movie to watch. Suggestions are much appreciated. It just seems like their are a million things I want to watch right now.

Re: Too Many Movies
I assume you're already aware of criticker.com's recommendations
So failing that, you could try:
- completely random selection (cover your eyes & point)
- watch with a friend and let them choose (from your list). Or don't watch with them, just ask them.
- keep a netflix-style queue, watching whatever movie is at the top of your list & adding new movies to the end
- look for "holes" in your viewing experience (EG: not many foreign movies, or pre-1960 movies, or film noirs, or Japanese directors, or Hitchcock films, etc) and choose a movie that helps fill one of those holes
- have different theme nights (EG: Monday = Criticker's top PSI movie, Tuesday = something from TSPDT's top 1000 list, Wednesday = comedy, etc).
There are certainly worse problems to have.

I used to do a "watch what's at the top of the list" kinda system but then I felt like that was limiting my selection too much. I tried doing a random selection but for some reason I'd always pick a movie I wasn't in the mood for. You did give me a good Idea though. One night I'll watch a random movie. The next night I'll fill in a hole. I'll have to come up with one or two more ways of selecting a movie but I think that will work. Variation seems like it would be the best method.
Also I tend to watch too many comedies. Whenever I couldn't pick a movie I'd usually end up watching a comedy. Its a habit I've been trying to break ever since joining Criticker. I think my new system will help a lot with that.

snallygaster gave a good rundown, but the fact of the matter is, I get bored of any pattern in my watch list and then I do these:
1) Watch movies in alphabetical order. (If you download movies, this should be easy to do - just watch the ones in the display order in Windows Explorer.)
2) Watch movies in ascending order of year of release. Pick your year of birth, say 1980, and watch a movie from 1980 today, 1981 tomorrow and so on till you hit 2012 and then start over from 1980 again.
2) Watch all available/recommended movies from one year, then move onto another random year.
On the list of all my personal problems though, this is 999th out of a 1000.

Re: Too Many Movies
I never use the Recommendations link...not directly anyways. What I do every single time is this:
Click on Explore, then Film Database to show all movies on Criticker
Then Under "Filters", click "Order By", check "Only Unranked Films" and order by PSI
Then click on "Year" to arrange a set date...maybe you only want to watch films from 2000 onward
Then click Genre and click on what you feel like watching, Horror, Comedy, Action, etc...
Then hit "Apply" at the bottom. When that's done, hit "Regenerate PSIs on this page" found under the movies and voila!...an entire list of recommendations based on your mood and taste.
I then click on the PSI number itself to read a synopsis of the film to see if it interests me.
Here's an example of my filter of Horror films since 2000 that I have not seen based on my PSI ratings
