I'm not going to do a Critcademy Awards topic because it wasn't a big hit last year. But, without using the word "snub", this is how I would've liked to see the acting noms go:

A distinct lack of leading male performances this year, seems to me. No one to compete with Leo. His life is about to become complete.

Only virtuoso performance of the year was Bennie Del Toro and he wasn't even nominated. Excuse me, he was fucking snubbed.

These nominations are all pretty boring and are reflective of the Academy's generic taste in movies. I hope Don Hertzfeldt wins for World of Tomorrow and that's really the extent to which I care.

Are the nominations themselves boring, or the industry as a whole? Were there potential nominations floating out there that would've excited you?

Some years feel more boring than others, and when you extend BP nominations beyond five, it makes it even more boring by inviting an image of mediocrity. Interesting movies are being cannibalized by TV, huge budget tent-poles, and comic book movies, so there are less BP worthy films being released yearly, not more.

I don't think this years crop of movies is "boring" per say, there is a lot of interesting films in that mix. I just think there won't be a lot of surprise winners this year like there could be with the group of films and actors nominated. The Academy thought process is stuck in a box, which will finally pay off for long term fans of DiCaprio.

I would never argue that T.V is taking interest away from films, but I do understand that Television can be more gripping because you can definitely explore more emotions and storylines with the character. However, the biggest issue that will always plague television shows is they never know when to end and most of them do not have a proper end game in sight right from the start.
