Whoa, somebody besides me put Her up there where it belongs.
And yes, it is definitely about love, but a hullavalot more more as well. But the other themes were very subdued, likely in hopes of having a descent box.

The discrepancy between what won the Best Picture Oscar most years and what I thought deserved to win annoyed me so much years ago that it was the impetus of starting my own web site. I've actually recorded and kept up to date all the Best Picture Oscar winners from 1928 to the present, along with what I thought should win each year, as a series of rollover images. Anyone interested click the link below:

I restricted my alternate choices to English language films, in the spirit of the Academy's own aversion to foreign movies. The list would look very different if I'd abandoned that rule.

Gotta appreciate those mad drawing skillz: http://www.thefilmgeek.com/quizpictures.html ;) .

Why haven't you used them in 'Geuss the movie from the image'?

I know, right? They could almost be used as professional story boards from the actual movies!

It might be a good idea for both Criticker and some of us to start a platform intertwined with criticker for analyses and reviews (Critickers.com?). Google doesn't really link to full reviews here for reasons pertaining to quality and it being on a forum meant for internal use and so it doesn't really draw people in or provide an audience for the reviewer, while content on such a separate site would in fact generate new traffic here. I've seen a couple individuals on Criticker start something on their own without much success, simply because it likely is too hard to do something like this alone. We'd immediately have a broad audience to market the platform-to-be from (the Criticker community) and in this would in the end construct a mutually beneficial relationship between both. We'd immediately have a lot of interesting content to be posted on it (all the insightful stuff that got little attention here), and in working together we'd have an edge over all those other individuals as well.

Enjoyed both of those links.

But Rumplesink, it's not the Academy's aversion to foreign films, it's its aversion to foreign language films (i.e. %&#@*! subtitles), with which I heartily agree. I mean for foreign films in English there's the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, India, Belize....and many more where English is the primary language. It's the damn Frogs whinin' about their extinct Lingua Franca.
