OVERALL SUMMARY

In the past three years, and across 510 rankings, I have seen only two films (one of them a TV series) I consider to be masterpieces, and only 17 out of 510 rankings have fallen in my top tier (which amounts to one third of what one would expect in purely statistical terms).

My big discovery of 2016 was Sion Sono (even though I'd previously seen a couple of his movies, including the one most people, but not me, seem to consider his masterpiece, Love Exposure).

I'm so curious why your number of films watched is dwindling! It gives me anxiety to think what if next year I don't see as many, or significantly less, films as this year! But I obsessively consume, often overlooking quality. Perhaps you're more actively hunting for masterpieces? Or has life become more complicated in general as often happens?

I watched about 100 less movies this year than average because I'm such a stud or more that TV IS SO GOOD NOW.

The main reason for the decline in number of rankings in 2015 and 2016 is that I was working in Ecuador. But there may be other reasons as well, along the lines you're suggesting.

I am hesitant to say that I've only watched about 90 films over the course of the year. It's been a year of twists and turns and quiet contemplation, as I have focused my efforts mostly upon rampant masturbation and witless daydreaming.

One of my previous small New Year's resolutions was to watch a movie per day, and while at first it seemed like a lot, I'm happy that I'm currently ahead of schedule with 372 movies watched this year :)

Jesus, I watched 438 films this year  (not including shorts, docs or TV shows because I only rank feature films).

I'm currently about half way through Street of Shame too.

I spend far too much time on my couch...
