I should add that I haven't seen a bunch like Arrival, A Separation, Manchester By The Sea, Prisoners, or Certified Copy yet.

You and I are on the same page, especially with Inception and Night Crawler (though I liked TDK better than TDKR), but there' are two gaping holes in your ratings, Her and The Accountant. I'd think you'd like them both, especially the latter since you appear to like think-worthyl action. Just sayin'.

P.S. Arrival degenerates pretty much into a monster movie. Don't know what all the fuss was about--and Amy Adams/Jeremy Renner are two of my favorites. (Heavy sigh).

Right.

I'd have thought they'd have been right up your alley. Low-budget Indies, albeit with excellent casts and directors, but obviously working with an eye on the art rather than the box. There will always be a special place in my heart for Like Sunday, Like Rain

^^ Haven't seen The Accountant yet but I did watch Her and enjoyed it (the first half more than the second iirc). I think Her's a top-20 but not top-10 for me from the past decade.

And yeah I understand I'm in the small minority of people who liked The Dark Knight Rises more than The Dark Knight since TDKR is more of a problematic movie and it can be picked apart quite a bit. The reason I liked it more though is that I love how it still holds that neo-noir look but it feels like everything is at a grander stage. It's problematic because of how ambitious of a movie it is and I give big points to executing stuff like the mid-air plane scene or the fight between Batman & Bane, it just has a very big spectacle. Plus I liked the characters in that film more, JGL, Catwoman, and Bane.

nevertheless, i think about it a lot.
and then i have memories of discussions about it with other people, and the emotions spurred - so it's linked with memories in my life (which should probably always happen with art, yet never normally does with me).
