Sometimes there are movies I am interested in, and interested in seeing what others thought of that movie. In some cases I return on numerous occasions over a lengthy period of time, just to see what new reviews have been written about the film by users. The following suggestion would be helpful in such situations.
Currently, when I go to a movie page, and click on the button to just show ratings that include reviews, I then have the following options: (1) to return to the full rankings list; (2) to order by number of stars; (3) to just show my Kumpels. I am proposing a fourth option: to order by date of ranking. That way, I would be given a list of reviews in order from the most recent to the oldest, so that it would be far easier for me to see whether any new reviews have been written of that movie. This may also assist and encourage stars to be given to new reviews of films that other users have already seen some time ago.

We agree. This is a very good idea. We've written it down and hope to get to it soon. It's easy to see how this would be of interest to a lot of people.
In the meantime, you can look at the RSS of a film, where the rankings are listed in order of date.

Nice feature, but could you include the year in the review date somehow? I get that there isn't much space, but maybe you could at least have the year as a tooltip if you hover over the date?
Another place where having the year as part of a date would be nice is in the message box on the profile page.

If the review is from last year or before, we show the year -- so if there's no year, you can assume it's 2010. (At least that's the way it should work!)

Re: Another possibility for ordering reviews
Yes, it does do that, and it seems like a reasonable way to do it. My bad.
While we're on this subject, would it be possible for the site to show you the dates of your own reviews as well? Right below your mini review on the film page could be a good spot for it.
By the way, if you change a mini review and/or change the score, does it update the review date or does it keep the old one? I'm guessing it keeps the old one.

Re: Another possibility for ordering reviews
If you just edit your rating/review it will keep the original date. It will only change the date if you delete your rating and re-enter it. I think.
